Husker Du. Greatest punk band of all time!

Tool. Cant go wrong there.

Id say the Grateful Dead, but that is almost impossible.

I have more Elvis Costello (18 cds?) than anybody else, and I know I'm still missing some.

But he's been doing some really interesting stuff with other guest artists of late, and some more recent works are quieter more somber (North, for example) offerings. But he can still bring it (Delivery Man) when he has to. I have some EC discs that I like more than others, but I don't know that I have any real stinkers. Certainly somebody to consider.

A few artists that haven't been mentioned yet that are very significant in my collection are: John Prine,
Yo La Tengo, Greg Brown and Bob Marley (of course previously mentioned the Grateful Dead).

What about Zappa?

That's a discography road I would like to travel...but I'm not sure me or my pocketbook is prepared yet!

How about Southern Culture on the Skids. I read them described as a mix of CCR, and the B52s with a tuch of The Cramps. I prefer the descriptio "Southern Swamp Rock."  In any event, I love them.

I am a nutbar for the following:

The Stone Roses - though Garage Flower was absolute dreck, I love the balance of their stuff.
Massive Attack - though for me Blue Lines is lacking, it took one listen of Protection, and I was hooked.
Bjork - I know she's odd, but the vocal range, and unique perspective just keeps me coming back.
Rebecca Pidgeon - The Raven is the reason I own high end gear, I heard that album once in a store local to Waterloo, Ontario, and ended up spending plenty of dough with Mark who ran the place over the years.

I only have one Stone Roses CD (the one with Love Spreads- can't recall the name right now) but I really loved it.  If their other stuff is good I'll have to look for it.

If I could collect the work of only one artist, it would be Vladimir Horowitz.

Rob, if you like Second Coming, I suspect that some of the other albums may fail to live up to the complexity and heavy guitar work, but I would recommend as a 2nd purchase - "The Stone Roses" as it has both Adored, and Fool's Gold on it.

Have fun!

I'll look for that one, mcgsxr.  And yeah- that's the one, Robin.  I haven't listening to it in about six months, so it's probably due!

+1 on the Horowitz.  Lately I've been looking for more performances by Marc-Andre Hamelin.  He's a Canadian pianist IIRC.  I've heard him play Listz and it was stunning.

I used to get all the NIN "Halos" too, but stopped once Trent kind of fell off after Downward Spiral.  I did just pick up the Year Zero Remixed CD though and its pretty sweet, recommended.

I'm a pretty freaky record/CD collector but some of my biggest obsessions are:

Radiohead
Beck
Phish
The Orb
Jimi Hendrix
Pink Floyd

I'd say Miles Davis but I know that my three box sets, five CDs and 5-6 records are small potatoes.

Calexico was the most recent full collection probably, actually I think I am still missing two, their first and one obscure side project (Tete a Tete or something like that)

Some others I've been collecting
Porcupine Tree
M Ward
Okkervil River
Black Keys
Grandaddy
Wilco / Jeff Tweedy / Loose Fur
Ryan Adams
Neko Case
Spoon
Josh Rouse
Andrew Bird
Cowboy Junkies
Queens of the Stone Age
Tool of course
Dream Theater
Built to Spill / Doug Martsch
Flaming Lips
Sun Kil Moon / Red House Painters
Rex / Convoy
Radiohead / Thom Yorke / Johnny Greenwood
The National
Brendon Benson / The Raconteurs
Arcade Fire
Son Volt / Jay Farrar
Death Cab for Cutie / Ben Gibbard / The Postal Service
The New Pornographers / AC Newman
Faith No More  (not a fan of most of the other Patton side projects)
Iron & Wine
Fugazi
Broken Social Scene
The Shins

Well you get the point...

Jeff Tweedy & Jay Farrar make your list, but no Uncle Tupelo?!? Heresy, Josh, that's heresy.

In terms of the original question, John Lee Hooker. I have more CDs than I will ever let my wife see in one place.

Regards,
John
