NEW! GIK Elite Diffusors
« on: 14 Mar 2008, 09:15 pm »

This is just a quickie that Glenn snapped with his cell phone.  It doesn't really show some of the innovative things we've done with it but it'll give you an idea.  It's pretty massive and can be stained just like the 242 Elite or Pillar.  Hopefully, we'll have some better pics soon.

Update:

Pricing has been set at $599 each for the Elite diffusor.

Looks nice.  4' x 2' x6"?  What frequency is it tuned for and what prime are you using?

Bryan-  Would you quote me a price for two #242's either here or in a PM?  Could I get them in black?  Thanks.

The size is 2'x4'x6.75". The design frequency is 470 hz. That is where it's effectiveness will start to taper off if you covered an entire wall with them. If you set up a few in an array with the edges exposed, the effective frequency range will drop down to around 100-200 hz.

It is based on a 7 prime QRD. To extend the frequency response on the top-end we have added mini-semicylinders to the bottom of some of the wells based upon a pseudo-random sequence. The advantage of this is that, not only is the high frequency range extended, but it maintains the coherence of the time-based diffusion of a QRD....for example a diffractal has a mini-QRD inside their QRD wells, this adds another time signature change that is different than that of the main unit. The other problem is that every well has the same QRD inside and this has been show to cause some high frequency problems - that is why we use the pseudo-random sequence for the placement of the semi-cylinders in the wells.

I hope that wasn't to convoluted of an explanation. Feel free to ask any questions. If I did a REALLY bad job of explaining...just say "I don't get it"...and I'll try to translate from nerdeze.

How far from the seated positions should these be to perform their best? First reflection points at the side would be pretty easy, but what about behind the listener?

Jason

Could you provide relative performance difference between this and the D1, please?

"time signature" relates to not acoustics, but music, which is what I majored in.  This has nothing to to with acoustics, but rather the division of beats in music.  An advanced concept is to use multiple time signatures simultaneously, but once again, this has nothing to do with acoustics.

Maybe he just meant time domain.  Come on, I thought that was a rather novel way to use "time signature."  I'd also like to know how they perform, especially as related to the D1.

Exactly.  You'd have to know Jason's humor.

They actually perform very well.  Just wish we could get things to a point where they're more affordable.
