Interesting problem I've got here.
It seems the SlimServers alphabet stops at the letter "Q". It does not 'see' any artist that begins with the letter "R" or any there after. If I check under 'albums', none of the albums performed by artists that begin with "R" or later show up either. Same with songs. They just plain don't exist. And it doesn't matter whether I check on SlimServer, or cycle through the SqueezeBox 'Browse' menu. They're gone. :dunno:
The artists/albums/songs DO exists if I look through the harddrive directory. SlimServer says I have 75 albums, but when I count them in the Drive:F directory, I have 111 albums.
In SlimServers 'server settings' I've tried: "look for new and changed music", I've also "Clear Library and rescan everything". And of course I've tried shutting the PC down and rebooting everything. Still the same.

Any ideas? This is strange.

What have you been using to rip your music?

Hi Phil, I'm using EAC/FLAC.
I might add that this is a new occurence. A couple days ago I remember listening to Wynton Marsalis, Robben Ford, Queen, and Taj Mahal. All of which are now "gone" from SlimServer, but still exist on the F: drive.

Thanks for the quick reply Phil.

Check in the settings for how many items it will show on a page.  I suspect they're on the 2nd page.  I nomrally set mine to like 500 or something so everything comes up on 1 page.

That's really strange.  Did you upgrade to SlimServer 7.0 recently or something?  I know when I did that, my entire music library disappeared (but a clear and re-scan-everything fixed it).

I'd also look into some other settings, like make sure it's not looking for an iTunes directory (or leaving out "unchecked" iTunes tracks).  Or under Music Library, that it's not grouping artists under a band.

Does it stop on the band Queen? I think your slimserver has AI capability and is just making a helpful suggestion.

Bryan - I took your suggestion and changed it to 500. Next, I clicked "look for new and changed music", and then it showed I had 101 albums.  The last artist SlimServer showing being Wynton Marsalis (which, by the way, IS the last artist listed on Drive:F).
Just for grins, I clicked "Clear Library and rescan everything". Now it shows 75 again.
I went back to interface settings and made sure the "500" stayed, and it did.
Now I'm really confused.

Phil - No upgrades to anything done recently. The itunes stuff is moot for me. Nothing checkmarked. That's the way I've had it since day one.

Mike -  That's funny stuff dude. I could live without Queen, but Wynton, Robben, and Taj Mahal I can't live without.

When you use the SB interface do you see the others by Artist?  Do you see them when just browsing the 'music folder'?

When I search the "MusicFolder" (the official name of the folder on Drive:F that contains all of the music) I can see everything.
When I look ON the SqueezeBox, the last artist I see is a gal named "Queen Ida", and the same is true on the SlimServer screen/page.

Hmmmm.  For some reason, the scan is stopping then.  If the interface sees it in the music folder but not by artist, something is wrong with the scan that's making it stop.  Lemme do some research.

Cool Bryan, thanks man.

Rebooted.....Same thing: 75 albums.

Then I, clicked "Look for new and changed music": Now I have; 101 albums with 1234 songs by 94 artists

Next I "Clear Library and rescan everything": Now I still have; 101 albums with 1234 songs by 94 artists

By my fairly rough count of the individual albums in Drive:F, I count about 111 albums. I may be off by a couple due to some weird double album thing, or maybe my heads in my butt. But I doubt I'm off by 10 albums. I also wonder what will happen in a few days....will I have 75, or 101, or 111, or ???

I've got a huge stack of CD's "on deck", that I'd really like to rip, but............

Are you running McAfee by some chance?

Here is one of a few threads complaining about similar issues on the Slim Forums

No concrete resolution in the SlimDevices forum, but I bumped it just in case.

A couple of them disabled McAfee and then did a clear and rescan and it worked just fine.  I think that WAS the resolution if running both pieces of software.

Yea, I'd like a 'work-around'. Something more permanent that I don't have to diddle with everytime I add music.
I'm going to dig in McAfee and see if I can tell it to ignore Drive:F totally. Forever and ever.
I don't see a reason to scan music ripped directly from a CD to an external dedicated RAID drive for viruses.

The last time I looked, I had 101 albums. Now I have 75 again.  :|  :guns:
I want an emoticon of a little yellow guy beating the snot out of his PC with a baseball bat.

Just use a batch renaming utility to rename all your artists and songs so they begin with letters preceding Q.
