Did anyone here go to VSAC?
« on: 6 Oct 2003, 05:31 am »
I just got back from the last day of the VSAC show.

While there were quite a few of AC's manufacturers there, I didn't run into anyone from here that wasn't a manufacturer.

Between the beers tonight (thanks Wayne! ) and the general lack of sleep I've had recently, I'll comment more in depth tomorrow. But I will say it was nice meeting a few of the guys here. As well as listen to a few things that I only usually read about.

I hope someone went. I want reports on ModWright's preamp, Solar's amp, etc. (As long as they were there...)

And what's wrong with Wayne...he should have bought you music  Glad to hear you had a good time. I'll look forward to your more in depth commentary.

Well, I went... but consider my reports to be biased.  I met Wayne and Danny, which was great, but I didn't get much time to chat as I was manning my own room.  I heard from Wayne that Tyson and Jason bailed at the last minute, and would have a hard time living it down. Shame on them...  :nono:

Let me tell you all that I was full pedal-to-the-metal with four hours of sleep for a whole WEEK getting my two products ready for the show.  I was indeed successful getting the bamboo speakers and vacuum-tube hybrid digital amplifier finished in time, and they were very well received by everyone who saw and listened.  I got a lot of positive comments, even from a couple of Jamaicans who when informed that they were listening to speakers made from grass, wanted to know if they could smoke them.

I'm hoping that VSAC was enough get my products some "buzz".  My task for this week is to clean up the mess in the basement and workshop (it looks like a tornado came through), get some pics and updated info on my website, and keep working on selling existing product and developing new ones.

Kevin, I'm more than aware you were at the show. I did stop in your room real quick Saturday. But the whole point of this thread was to find out if any non-manufacturer AC members went to the show.

I was fully aware of what AC manufacturers were there. And I believe I stopped by every one of their rooms at some point over the weekend.

But what I didn't catch were regular AC members. I was checking everyone's name tags as I passed them in the halls & rooms. And I heard no mention of other AC members when I spoke to a few of the AC manufacturers while I was there.

Nothing's wrong with Wayne.

And what do I need music for? I've got one CD that someone gave me a few months back. And that's plenty. :P

But good beer is always welcome...

I was actually somewhat un-impressed with a lot of the setups there. The rooms were wretched acoustically. And I was surprised at the general lack of room treatments. But I didn't hit every room in detail as I was only there for the first half of Saturday, and the last half of Sunday.

But the 2 rooms I enjoyed the most were two of the rooms that took more care in treating the room than the majority of the other rooms I stopped by.

I enjoyed the Bolder & GR Research rooms the best.

They both had really nice gear that was setup rather well given what they had to work with and the little time they had to do it.

It was unfortunate that I wasn't able to be at the show any longer than I was as I would've liked to experienced everyone's rooms a bit more.

We were upset that we were not able to attend, but at least Bolder, GR Research, and Solar Hi-fi were able to use our products to good effect.  Thank you guys for showing with the 8th Nerve Response products, I hope they worked well for you.

Looks like everybody had a blast... wish I was there.

Curious what was in the modded SACD shootout system.  Could somebody tell me what amplification and wiring was used?  I can tell they were using Utopias, but not much else.

Thanks much,

-Chris

Jeez, sorry to have hijacked your thread with "offensive" material.  Too bad you didn't introduce yourself, as I would have liked to have met you and put a face to a name.
