Dad's ol' stuff
« on: 13 Feb 2008, 01:51 am »
Hi everyone.

I have a couple of questions about the stereo setup I've got. My dad bought the system in '77, and gave it to me this year when i moved into my dorm room. Its a Pioneer SX-750 receiver and a pair of Tangent RS2's. I'm not planning on selling the setup because of sentimental value (i've been using it in my basement since i was born) and it sounds as good as or better than any new system I've heard recently, but I am curious of its value. If anyone has any info at all it would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know if the RS2's are made with solid wood panels or do they have a woodgrain laminate on them? My dad spray-painted the poor things black back in the 90's, and I'd like to return them to their original state, they were beautiful looking speakers if my memory serves me correctly. I'll get some pics up asap!

thanks!!

Hey!

First welcome to the AC. :D

It those were your dad's old system I wonder what is he using now. :D Anyway, it was nice of him to pass on those to you. And I'm glade to know that you are not going to sell it. :D

As for the value I checked eBay and see that your SX-750 go for from $25 to $157 the second highest was $91. It is a good looking receiver. Look like it is rated as 50 watts per channel.

Your speaker is quite interesting. Are these the same one...

A little search and found this site...

http://www.thunders.ca/tangent/rs2.php

Look like a very nice speaker for '70s and seem to have a good drivers there. :D I've never seen this before.

As for the sound I'm sure the speaker and that old Pioneer sound very good and probably better than the new recent iPod generation's system So, if you are taking them to your dorm too than be careful not to let your roommate break it  Just hook a CD player or an iPod up to it and I'm sure you will probably have the best sounding system there.

Take care,
