RM30's in Seattle Area
« on: 5 Feb 2008, 07:10 am »
I am thinking about utilizing some of uncle sam's kindness to purchase a set of RM30's.  Is there anyone in the seattle area that has a pair that I might be able to listen to?  Thanks

Hi Everett,

Check out the "Owners Audition" list in the stickies at the top of the VMPS Circle

Look for Jonbee.

He is a proud RM30 owner in Seattle.

Hi Jonbee, I'm not sure if you received my PM or not, but I was hoping you had some pictures of your 30's, (showing the OXO and how you have it placed). Either to post here or to e-mail to me.  I can resend my address if needed.

Thanks in advance,  :thumb:

Found this pic in the VMPS Pictures file, which I beleive is Jonbee's Set up.  Don't know if it displays the OXO.

Hi Everett,
I have RM2-FSTs in Victoria BC.  Similar result, less boxes - no subs needed. You are very welcome to have a listen.

Everett came by today to hear my system, and we shared some great music. Everett is a very knowledgeable listener, and I appreciated hearing his opinions. I think Everett may post his reactions here, but it is safe to say that he was mighty pleased with what he heard and saw.

As Jonbee mentions, he was gracious enough to afford me the opportunity to listen to his RM30 C's yesterday afternoon.  To say that I was impressed would not do justice to the overall system that Jonbee has painstakingly put together and tweaked. The one thing that really stood out for me was the overall top to bottom clarity of the RM30's. The level of transparency was something that I expected through the midrange....however I was not prepared for that same level to find it's way into the bass and midbass ranges.  These speakers simply remove anything that stands between you and the performance.  Tonally these speakers just sound right, piano's sound like well, a piano.  Vocals put you in the room with the performers, you know that "papable presence" thing.  Finally these speakers are extremely dynamic, with the ability to play loud with out compressing the sound or giving any sense of strain or listener fatigue.

I am sure that on this forum you have all heard these things mentioned before, but for me these speakers were a revelation.  I never expected to find this type of performance in a speaker of this size or price range.  I will be ordering my pair within the next two weeks.   Once again thanks Jonbee for sharing your wonderful system with me.

Hi Everett,

While no speaker manufacturer can claim to have the perfect speaker for everyone, VMPS certainly can offer a great product that satisfies many who are lucky enough to hear or better yet own them.

It seems that VMPS owners have a tendency to place a hi priority on finding and developing the sound they like, including searching for great source, front end and amp products.

Great to hear you are coming on board, and look forward to your posting of how your system develops after VMPS gets hold of it.

Welcome :thumb:

This is my 40th year in this "hobby", and at least I can say that I'm very clear about what I like and cherish in a system. When I bought my RM30s 15 mos. ago I felt they would be just the right platform for an assault on my personal SOTA. I've replaced my whole front end since getting them, and while the adjustments offered out of the box went along way to getting the right balance, I experimented with a number of tweaks to get it "just right", given my space and decorating constraints. The only tweaks I found that added something are Bybees on the inputs, and rear ambience tweeters. I've now gotten the system to a point where, for me, it has all the right stuff.
As I told Everett, I feel lucky to have discovered the RM30s as a means to achieving SOTA sound  (and looks!) at a price that I'm willing to pay. I'm glad Everett confirmed my decisions- Kudos again to Big B!
