Looking for Item
« on: 5 Feb 2008, 01:20 am »
Hi all,

Well, in my search for the tube preamp, leaning towards the Transcendentsound GGP kit. Only mainly because I Found someone who has one unopened save just to read the instructions for $430. Gonna get a GoldPoint stepped atenuator. Now looking for three Teflon tube sockets. I thought I'd trick this out a bit. Maybe, should have posted this in the lab. Moderator if so, go ahead and move it. Wasn't sure where best to post.
Vendors send me links or email me directly:

I don't always check PMs.

Ray,

I recently purchased some of the blue molded teflon sockets from diyhifisupply.com.

http://www.diyhifisupply.com/diyhs_sockets.htm

They seem nicely made, much like the expensive ones but they half the cost.  I haven't tried them in an amp yet so I don't know if they hold up to repeated tube rolling and heat yet.    I like that they come in PCB mounted versions as well, which is nice for my Aikido amp.

I've seen some teflon sockets recently on ebay that look like the $20/ea ones on diyhifisupply but cost $20/pr.  If you search around you'll probably find the same ads (which I don't have handy).

Hi JoshK,

I thought about looking at DIYhifisupply. But all I want is the Teflon probably PCB sockets. Then I'd be paying a lot for shipping. I'll look around some more. Thanks.

Ray,

Just a note that the teflon sockets sold by parts connexion have a much smaller than normal pin diameter profile and won't fit a normal 9 pin PC board layout -- and man are they a tight fit when trying to do point-to-point -- you have to be very careful about solder bridges and component leads shorting against neighboring pins.  Other than that, they feel very nicely made.  I think they're white though.

Hi Jim,

Well, I think if I'm gonna buy this transcendentsound GGP So I definitely would like to find some Teflon tube sockets, replacing the ceramic ones. Now, supposedly, the Teflon sockets give the tube a whole different presentation than the ceramic sockets.
