I was told by my dealer that Bryston is already shipping the SP3. Is this correct?

No we built 6 units and have shipped them to distributors for shows etc. but we are starting to build 100 more units this month for production delivery.

Hi Jeff

I am working on the manual now - is there a particular spec your interested in?

James

Not so much interested in specs (I take it for granted they will be good or you would not release it ) as I am the features.

From the latest pictures of the back there have been some changes in the number and type of inputs and outputs, I was looking for a list of what they are.

It looks like there are 10 balanced outputs, are there multiple sub outputs?

Given Bryston's track record I am assuming it will be a excellent DAC.  Can the SP3 be used to integrate a pair of subs with the mains for 2 channel playback when the SP3 accepts a digital input?

Also, waiting to hear how it sounds fed by the BDP.

Hi Jeff

I will see if I can get an updated shot of the back for you.  There are 2 sub outs one XLR and one RCA. Also there is a set of Aux outs that can be configured to be another sub center or stereo outs.

Yes you can use a sub and integrate it with the Stereo setup. Digital as well as Analog.

We had it set up Friday in the sound room and I was using the BDP and happy to report it sounded excellent and played the 192/24 without a hitch.

Happy to hear there are two configurable outputs (was hoping for this when I counted 10 balanced outs in the photo), this will give a lot of flexibility as to how it can be setup.

H James,

I noticed that the BDP-1 display can be adjusted for brightness and has an auto shut off feature.  Will the SP3 have the same features on its display?

Best,
John

Yes the display can be timed out from (1-minute 10 m and 30 m to 2 hours) and can also run at 25-50-75 and 100 percent.

That's when it's first powered on?  In other words, while you're watching a movie and you nudge the volume control, it only lights the display for a few seconds and not 1/10/30 minutes or 2 hours?

James,

in an earlier thread you said that the SP3 will accept digital SACD signals via HDMI (88.2 KHz will then be shown at the display).

- would 176.4 KHz be possible or will the SP3 sample it down to 88.2?
- or is it always a matter of the device that plays a SACD which digital output signal will reach the SP3?? (for example: some player put out 88.2 and some player put out 176.4).

Based on Jame's earlier posts the SP3 will not accept a DSD signal which means the player will have to convert the SACD to PCM to send to the processor.  This means the bit rate and depth will be determined by the player, so if your player will convert SACD to 176.4/24 PCM then the SP3 will accept and play that.

Hi Vipers,

I am playing around with the SP3 now using the BDP-1 as the source into the Balanced AESEBU on the SP3 so I should be able to let you know soon.

James - Do you think you could post some pics of the SP3 for us who are anticipating the arrival of this fine unit?

MMmmm, looks lovely.

Just one question, on the final versions (not sure if that is a prototype) is the bottom left selector button going to say 'DVD' on it or are you going to put 'BD' or 'Bluray' as given the price point of the unit and the percentage of blu's now, I would have thought that would make more sense?

Cheers

It will say DVD as some do not know the term Bluray
