Hi James,

Does the SP3 support FLAC up to 192K

Thanks

Hi - yes - I was playing with the SP3 and the BDP-1 over the weekend and all seems well.  I used one of the AES Digital Stereo inputs on the SP3 as well as the COAX digital on the SP3.

Hi James,

I assume you are primarily a 2 channel stereo listener. Do you find there is an adjustment in how you listen in Surround Sound, for soundstage, imaging? 8)

Hi Mag,

Yes mainly 2 channel as I find it much more 'predictable' than surround. I like surround on movies and such but prefer Stereo for music. The center channel and what it does is a big issue for me with music.

That being said I have been working on a tri-center idea with Magnepan that really seems to work at providing all the benefits of a stereo sound stage only better :thumb:

James,

does the SP3 accept SACD (DSD) digital signals via its HDMI connectors?

al.

James,

is DSD doable with a software upgrade?

I checked with engineering and SACD playback is available on the HDMI input on the SP3 from our sample OPPO DBP-83 DVD Player :thumb:

By the way our German distributor has an SP3 now for the Munich Show so you should be able to see and hear one there. They are setting up a room with PMC and have a surround demo planned.

Wow, Christmas might be coming early this year...

I am looking forward to experiencing the new SP-3 at the Munich High End trade show!

If the SP-3 should finally become available in the course of this year and Bryston figures out how to do the SP-1/1.7/2 trade-in program, I am in real dilemma... I am currently remodelling my recently acquired flat... while the SP-3 would perfectly fit in, it just might swallow a huge part of my remodelling budget...  8)

Anyway, the SP-3 will be here to stay for a while - it's just the question whether there will be time limit for the trade-in offer by Bryston.

We will see.

Cheers!

Markus

Hi Markus

Yes first you have to like what you hear. Will be interested in your thoughts after the show :thumb:

James,

Great to hear that the SP3 supports DSD over HDMI.  I am considering purchasaing a SP3 later this year and the DSD over HDMI provides another benefit in addition to the latest Dolby and DTS formats.

When you get a chance can you please let me know what the dimensions in inches are of the SP3.  I only ask becuase my space is limited to 6.5" x 17" x 22" (H x D x W).

Thank you,

John

James,
Can you comment on what, if any, difference in sound quality you have observed between the BDP-1 BDA-1 BP-26 combo and the BDP-1 SP-3?

Hi James,

Yes, like Tony I would also love to know what sort of difference there is in stereo quality with the SP3 vs BP26 as I bought a nice pair of ELAC 249's last year and have been saving to buy a BP26 to go with them. Now I am wondering if I should buy the SP3 instead as I watch a lot of movies... Can't wait to open my speakers (which have been patiently waiting in their box for the last 9 months) when I get a 4BSST too, lol.

Thanks very much for your time,
Dom

Thanks Dom and Tony

I am still going through that exercise and there is a difference on the digital side using the BDP and the BCD as the source. I am just trying to assess as accurately as I can that difference. Will report back. I think it will come down to what kind of source and material is most important to you - stereo or surround.

As for the analog stereo side it's a tough call.

James,

When setting up the distances for the speakers in surround mode, how fine can you adjust the distances.

.2 or better

Hi Al,

We should see it on the new website as soon as it is up.  we are busy writing a preliminary manual and literature.  I have had one at home now for about 3 weeks and I am very very happy with the sound. :thumb:

Hi,

5 inches or 10 CM.

james

5 inches is 12.5 cm.
10 cm is 4 inches.

So I'd go for cm, it is more precise... :D

James,

Have you had a chance to A/B the SP3 with the SP2 in 2 channel bypass mode?

Thanks,

Ben
