SP 3.0?

Playing a 24/192 album from HDTracks through from my Oppo BDP 93 over HDMI, the Classe SSP-800 correctly identifies that the audio is 192khz. The SP3 is only showing 96khz. I tried sending both PCM and bitstream over HDMI and the SP3 would only show 96khz from both. Over optical, it would see 192

Is this a known issue?

I will ask engineering - it may be a setting.

I thought it might be, but the only one I saw was the D/A Sample Rate, which I have set to 192khz

I think the OPPO will not output 192 on HDMI and down-samples it to 96 but I want to check. The SP-3 tells you the real sample rate being processed whereas some units tell you want is coming in - want to check on that.

Oppo players will send out 192kHz and also at 24 bit over HDMI. When I was using an HDMI audio de-embedder (where I preferred 24/88.2kKz via the DAC vs. my modded Oppo analog outs), I ran an Integra over to John Gatski's (of everythingaudio.net) place as the BDA-1 I had at the time showed I was getting 176kHz. John has an ATI ADAC2 sample rate converter which shows bit depth. Unfortunately the Integra truncated the word length to 16 bits. I've passed 192kHz via an HDMI audio de-embedder from more than one Oppo model into the BDA-1

If it downsampled it and actually sent 96khz, why would the Classe SSP-800 show it as 192khz? I'm pretty sure the Oppos can output 192khz over HDMI

I have the same problem. So, I reached out to OPPO to see if the BDP-93 was limited to 96 over HDMI. It is not. They confirmed that the BDP-93 will pass through 192 with no problem. Their feedback was that the SP3 must have a handshake problem that results in the OPPO down-converting to 96.

James, if possible, can your engineers reach out to OPPO to see what the issue is? It would be great to get this fixed with the next firmware update.

Yes it is definitely the OPPO as my DUNE player has no issue with 192 over HDMI with the SP3

Yes but what engineering told me is that the SP-3 reads what is actually being processed by the SP-3 while some processors show what bit rate is coming in and not what bit rate is being processed by the chips in the processor - i want to check on whether I am understanding the engineers correctly.

I would encourage you to get the BDP-105, as it's positioned at a level commensurate with the interests of Bryston owners, and it has some interesting design features that may be pique your interest as you develop future products.

Anyone ever have their SP3 randomly lose network connectivity? Mine was fine since last week but now doesn't want to have an IP address anymore. set to auto, not static

When i set it to static, then back to auto, it found it again

Yep, mine does this as well. I just go into network settings and make a change (doesn't seem to matter what) and then save it and then go in and change it back the IP address comes back. When it fails it isn't attached to the router at all (checking the MAC address).

I had some network connectivity issues as well. Changed from the default "Server & Client" to "DHCP Client Auto IP" and it is now reliable.

Note - this works for me as my router provides DHCP services. If your network is different, you may need a different solution. Have you seen the guidelines in the Bryston FTP area? ftp://bryston.com/pub/firmware/sp3/doc/

Mine's already set to "DHCP Client Auto IP." I had to set it to a different setting and then back to "DHCP Client Auto IP" for it to get an IP address last night

Hi James, just following up on this, I had never looked at the rates before on the SP3.

I have a much older Oppo 83SE (still hoping you will build me a replacement Bryston Bluray to replace it eventually

) anyway, I tried a couple of things, connected up over HDMI if I put a DVD-Audio disc in the SP3 shows 96kHz correctly, so that it is good, I will have to find some 192kHz to try later. So, to my question, I then left the rate display on the SP3 and ran a couple of Blurays, they always report 48kHz regardless of whether it is bitstream or PCM (I have max LPCM set to 192kHz in the oppo) I tried ordinary DVDs, DTS-MA and DD-True HD all the same always 48kHz, does that sound right?
