Hi James,

Just for reference, what is present capability of the optical input and output ports?  I know the Coaxial inputs are capable of 24B/192k as I have tried them and they work great... :thumb:

Ciao, Luigi

Inputs 192/24-my Dune DVD player optical out can do this.
Outputs 48/16

James,

I am thinking at possible ways to improve my listening experience.

I currently have my BDP-1 hooked directly to the SP3, and it sounds
great. I like to be surrounded by the music and tend to listen in 5 channel
  stereo mode.

I am looking at getting a BDA-2.

So my bdp-1 would go into the bda-2 and that would go into the balanced inputs
 on the SP3.

I am trying to determine which modes on the SP3 would play my music using the BDA-2 DAC, instead of the DAC in the SP3.

I assume that would be the 2ch.bypass.

Is there any other modes, that would play in all speakers using the DBA-2 DAC's

Hi,

You got it! - the 2-channel balanced analog stereo bypass is what I use.

Well, i heard JBL Synthesis had chosen your SP3 for their new pre/pro (Lexicon MP20 is definitively down), after a great audition !
It's been saying that they're working with you to implement their Quantum logic DSP inside the futur rebadged SP3...
I was wondering how much "tweaking" will they make ?

Well, well, if this one hasn't some similarities with Bryston's SP-3...  8)

I found this picture of an JBL Synthesis SDP-45HD in a Facebook report about Cedia 2012.

That would be saying something, if Harman's luxury division preferred to adapt the Bryston instead of using an in-house/in-group design... wow!  :thumb:

Cheers!

Yes or you could try other STEREO sources through the BDA-2.

Which is what I do, all my 2ch go through the BDA1 then balanced into the SP3, bypass and they all sound wonderful, none as good as the BDP1 obviously  :D

James,

Just tried to update the firmware from 2012.05e to 2012.11, but display shows:

    SERIAL#         32
    FIRMWARE  f2011.89

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

P.S. Also, any news on that iPad app for SP3?  8)

It appears it did not load the new firmware. Where are you located? Can you call Bryston?  If so call and ask for Stan. - 18006328217

Had the same issue. The firmware reverts to the factory default which at the time was the 2011 firmware (I have serial 36). Ended up having to reinstall 2012.05e and then reinstalling 2012.11 (and now 2012.12 is available).

Also, at the time, the EEPROM had been corrupt and had to be redefaulted. There is a new doc file on the ftp site that shows how to access the menu that allows this.

How do you see when a new firmware is available.

I just see 2012.05e on the bryston site.

I don't think James wants the ftp site published here, but the link is available from the help page on the SP3 web access page.

The 2012.12 version is available from the "current" directory under SP3 firmware.

Thank you James.

I spoke to Stan and reflashed to 2012.05e first and then to 2012.12 -- all good now.

I am in California.

So no iPad app for the SP3 yet...?
