Assuming the RRP of the SP3 is $10 000, then I would think you would need to add another $7000 to your $1500 to seal the deal via the trade-in terms.

Of course, happy to be corrected to the contrary on this!

given that the SP2 was 7000 Euros (new)...this would mean that adding another 7000 makes the SP3 almost unreachable at 14.000?!? so purchasing a brandnew SP3 is "only" 10k...and therefore it doesn't make any sense if someone who has already bought a SP2 for 7k now has to pay again 7k, right? so what kind of "upgrade" is it?? talking about myself i purchased the SP2 knowing that Bryston would offer a reasonable update sooner or later. the updates from SP1-->SP1.7 and SP1.7-->SP2 were based on a complete different trade-in.

maybe i just misunderstand the whole thing ...James, please help us out here.

I've recently seen a few SP1.7 / SP2 units sell for more than the trade in value.  If I still owned my SP2 and was looking to purchase (dream  ) an SP3, I'd try and sell it privately and use the extra bargaining power of cash in hand with my dealer.

I guess that would depend on your local dealer whether he/she would give you a better trade in value because the SP-2 is still being sold as a current preamp.  But from what i understand, the SP-3 is retailed out as 9500.00 and the trade in value to your local dealer is 1500.00.   So, that means there  would be a ballance of 8000.00, or whatever the dealer is willing to discount.   How long the trade in is in effect depends on the gurus at Bryston.

Overseas it is up to the local distributor to decide on the discount.... given the price points in their specific market.

Hi James

Well I finally received my SP3 after a much long wait. I am using the new Cambridge 751 BD Blu-Ray player with my Bryston amplifier and Focal speakers.

I am very impressed at the speed at which the SP3 locked with digital signals being sent to it and also no relay clicking during this process. I found the unit very intuitive in its setup menu and very easy to navigate through. I had the unit setup and ready to go in probably 20 minutes.

The ability to set the subwoofer crossover for each of the channels was very impressive and the big one for me was the fact that you can turn the aux outputs into addition center or subwoofer channels is a great idea.

I found the new DSP engine used in this processor along with the DACs that gave me a result of probably the best sounding unit that I have had the pleasure of using to date. I was absolutely amazed at the clarity of sound and lack of back ground noise that the SP3 delivered, which resulted in the most involving surround experience I have enjoyed in my theater.

Thank goodness that you guys at Bryston had the passion and desire to build this incredible unit.

I just had read this, this morning prior to seeing your post - got me wondering about my new (old stock) Panny VT25 and when it would be outdated.   
Good to know that both Blu-ray and HDMI can accomodate 4K - and very good to know that the SP3 is compatible via the pass-through.

Reading James comments here he still seems to be convinced that 24/192 is the limit, and that Bryston offering a DAC that can do this is rather rare (sorry James, it really isn't). So an upgrade to anything higher probably is not going to happen anytime soon.

On the other hand, 24/96 seems to be the top when it comes to actually making any audible difference. So anything over that is just showing off.

Sure if the chips become available  - but existence of the BDP-1 really negates the need for the BDA USB.
