Given the nature of this hobby, and the high degree of probability of changing speakers in the future, wouldn't it be more cost effective and efficient to simply pour a thin layer of this concrete material into your ears, giving the tympanic membrane the rigid property versus the speaker and providing an instant upgrade to any speakers you own....ever?

Don't be silly...you have to think this through properly.

Everybody knows that a typical concrete mix is an aggregate of many different size particles.  Even if one were to screen out the ones which cannot fit into the ear, the granularity remaining...puhleeese..can anyone say "grainy sound texture"??

Essentially, all you can realistically use is the portland ceeeement...duh..

C'mon, get wit the programm

Yes...this is the stuff that I used. I see now that this stuff has no concrete in it....The guy at Home Depot told me it had concrete in it.

Users of extended range drivers have been playing with coatings for years.  Louis from Omega Speakers being one of them.

Yes indeed you are correct. And here's another example of a speaker cone coating product at PE:

HFSG,
I see you have changed the thread title.

Shouldn't you have changed it to "very thin coat of latex emulsion on speaker cones", as per this:

http://www.quikrete.com/ProductLines/ConcreteCrackSeal.asp

And why the caps - do you plan to make it a song title?

"You are the sun, I am the moon, Slay me"... :P

I really, really tried to ignore this thread and really, really didn't want to post, but I am compelled.  Let's spend time on concreting cones and ignore time-wasters like acoustic room treatment, cabinet construction and clean music reproduction.

I'm gonna feel so sorry for posting this.  I'll probably admit to it tomorrow night at my Texas Hold-'em poker game on the eve of my birthday.  I'm bad.  :icon_twisted:

I have some of that in my garage left over from repairing my sidewalk.  Been wondering how to use it up.  Why don't you send me some speakers.  I will coat them as you described, take pictures documenting the entire process, post them and give a report on how they sound.

Does anyone know how to to cast tubes in a solid block of concrete? I was thinking about making a mold as to encase my 4 KT88 and 4 12A7s in one solid chunk- Hans Solo like. That way I can just change the whole tube compliment in one quick change, kinda like a tube speedloader and anti vibration all in one!  :thumb: :thumb:
