Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi is probably my favorite Thievery Corp album and one of my favorite electronic music albums period.
emac, I got this one over the weekend. As I have nothing that even remotely resembles them, you can say I want more. Of these titles that are available from my CD store, what would you recommend I get first.
You recommend Cosmic Game?
How about DJ-Kicks and The Outernational Sound?
The Richest man in Babylon (you did not like this), but what about Babylon Rewound?

Although I will listen to all of them before deciding on any of them, your input would be most helpful in deciding what to buy now and what to buy later or never. Its a case of too much music to buy with too little money. I roughly buy about 4 CDs a month and try hard usually with little success not to overspend.

Hicks, I just added K&D Sessions into my to buy list.

Some young guy, I heard samples of Buckethead's Colma so unless I have got the wrong Buckethead, they are very much smooth jazz. I think I have by accident (or by your recommendation) discovered a group whose style I like.

Buckethead being mistaken for smooth jazz is hysterical.  I only say him once live with Les Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains tour.  He does indeed shred.

Maybe he's talking about Buckshot Le Fonque?   :icon_lol:

If you guys dig K&D Sessions you should definitely check out their side projects as well:  Tosca and Peace Orchestra.

As for the DJ Kicks series it just so happens that Daddy G of Massive Attack did one and I highly recommend it, some great dub and electronic stuff included on that one.

As for the other DJ Kicks the mixes by Andrea Parker and Playgroup are probably my faves, but more on the electrobreaks/house tip than the downtempo stuff we have been talking about.

Most of what I would recommend has already been mentioned but here goes anyway:

Thievery Corp. - The Cosmic Game, Versions, The Mirror Conspiracy (you already have Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi).

Massive Attack - Mezzanine, Blue Lines and Collected is a nice compilation cd.

If you like Massive Attack, check out Tricky - Maxinqauye.

Kruder & Dorfmeister is good too.  K&D Sessions and DJ-Kicks as already mentioned.  You might also like Portishead - Dummy,
Moby - Play and others in the electronic genere.

Yes he's a shredder, but have you heard 1997's Colma? It's much closer to "smooth jazz" than it is to shredding.

Cosmic Game is my 2nd fav, though Mirror Conspiracy is way up there as well.  The remix albums are worth listening to.  Perhaps look on Itunes, see what you like, and download those.  DJ Kicks is much better than Outernational Sound, which isn't shabby itself.  I honestly haven't listened to Babylon Rewound in a while.  I remember liking it more than Richest Man, but it's not up to the level of their other albums.

As was mentioned before, Kruder and Dorfmeister's K&D Sessions is Brilliant.  K&D were an inspiration for the Thievery Corporation.

But if you get nothing else, get Thunderball's Scorpio Rising album.  One of my top 3 all time albums.  It's like the Thievery Corporation but hip rather than ethereal/world influenced.

Its hard to believe that "Electric Tears" and "The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell" are by the same performer.
lonewolf42, thanks for the link, great stuff. It helped decide that I should own at least one shred guitar style album.
