Tonian Acoustics TL NFSM
2 ways 88db Sensitivity 8 ohm load
The woofers are modified fostex 168-HPs and the tweeters are modified Fontek
ribbon tweeters. Frequency response is 47-40,000 Hz

There was a review by 6 moons a while back on this model that in my opinions sums up the strengths of the TL NFSM much better then I ever will. The reviewer compares these monitors to his Peak Consult Incognito's which are 3x the price and have the impressive Scanspeak revelator  check out the full review here www.6moons.com/audioreviews/tonian/monitor.html

I've paired these speaker with tubes and solid state and in both instances the sound was exceptional !

The speakers are approx 2 years old and are in immaculate condition they were purchased directly from Tonian Acoustics as a demo with very low hours on them I have the original boxes and packaging

$1550 is my asking price 4k retail

Check out my systems page on Audiogon to see pictures of my system and the Speakers http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr_memb.pl?&&memb&zzMusicfile

If you want to see additional pictures please e mail me privately
I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have

Those are fantastic speakers! I had the pleasure of hearing them at the Tonian Labs office in Glendale, demoed on some very so so solid state gear and some less than high priced spread cables,as was the designers want.He said if they sound this good with this "stuff".....They just sounded great, and i was using Sonus Faber Cremona Monitors at the time.I hope somebody buys them soon before i get weak and make an offer.

Thanks Jazz
I appreciate you chiming in

Yes these are very good speakers as a matter of fact Tony M doesn't make a bad speaker from his fostex designs to his Phy Drivers they all sound good

If I had a bigger room I would upgrade to one of his open baffle PHY designs

Did you get a chance to hear any of his other speaker designs

Hi Mike-I have been there twice, first time i heard the monitor you are selling-an amazing little speaker with a huge soundstage -glow and throw and a melt in your mouth phantom center.Of course the right little monitor in the right placement seems to do that like some kind of magic act.I was there to buy Supra cables, interconnects and power cords. The second time i was there i heard a new floorstanding model he was working on,a work in progress. He is also, what i would call ,a recordist. One who records live music but is more sophisticated than the typical sound engineer who records sound. He understands music and knows good sound and has devoted much time to reproducing that sound,on tape and then designing his speakers to transfer that sound. He played me a solo drum recording, the playing was, well not very good, but the recording, played through those speakers was amazing to the point of hyper realistic. He gave me a copy of the cd,i took it home and played it.I had to take it off after about a minute as my woofers were starting to buckle and i freaked out. That speaker he was working on ate it up and asked for more.We are speaking of Tony Minasian of Tonian labs,a very gentle man and a very smart speaker designer.I am no way associated with tony or the speakers that are for sale, just another fly on the wall.I went three way ported floor standing speakers because i felt i was missing "detail" in music.I still miss that smaller monitor phantom center that hangs like a tiny pink cloud, but that's me and my room. Now i have layers, steps up to a sound pyramid, and that's where they can bury me.At least for now. Please enjoy the music!

Sorry, that i can't answer. It was a large one speaker beast that shook the room.It reminded me of the speakers my father had in the 50's,just one 12" speaker. That speaker has not appeared on the Tonian website as far as i can tell. The real sleeper in his line is his "Super Tweeter",which has gotten a little press.I may have to go back a listen to that again,i am very close to his office and if i get any definite info on that other speaker i heard i will pass it along!

bluemike:

The only things I can think of is the relatively small number of folks that have heard of them and the strong bias of AC members toward the speaker mfgs. on this site.  I have a pair of Paradigm Studio 20v4's for sale - mint condition and virtually new - and they haven't garnered a whisper.  I upgraded to SP Tech Mini's, which I love.  Good luck.  I think I'll post an ad on Audiogon...

Since you asked, from my perspective:
1. I've never heard them before and unless I get on a jet there is no opportunity for me to hear them and I'll never buy a speaker unheard.
2. They're WHITE. I can tolerate numerous speaker shapes, sizes, and colors, but not colors which SCREAM AT ME. My favorite color would be invisible.
3. The reviewer mentioned that the ribbon tweeter sounded a little sharp and edgy at times. No speaker is perfect but for me that is the one fault I cannot tolerate at all.

Bump
Thanks to those to who responded

Fwiw I have never found these speakers to be edgy even at very high volumes.

My only thought is they weren't broken in as of yet

The real reason may simply be bad timing, especially since they seem to be really good speakers. Many people seem to have pulled back their expenses, waiting to see what the economy will do. Unfortunately, pulling back directly effects the economy in a negative way. So it can become a self-fullfilling prophesy.

Doug

I read your reply how low should I go  :o
mike, do this only if you really cannot keep it:

put it up f/a on audiogon w/o reserve, starting at, say, $200.  it will sell for what it's worth.  don't be surprised if it doesn't break $1k, tho.  if it were me, i would have it professionally painted black, first, if you hope to break $1k.

good luck,

doug

Thanks Doug

If they don't sell at my asking price then I will keep them.
My asking price is already too low to go down any further

Pat

hey, don't feel bad - i have a nice modded art di/o dac f/s, asking $275 shipped - it's a freaking steal, as it is as good or better than anything you could buy new or used for $1k.  but, i guess since it isn't flavor of the month, i haven't even gotten a single offer...  oh well...

I still use a bolder mensa with power upgrades...fended off a top-o'-the line modwright player, venerable benchmark dac1, an electrocompaniet ecd-1 (later version), and linn ikemi.  I've been trying to upgrade...but I haven't found a way yet...maybe it is synnergy...then again...
