The Teres 340 is here!

The Teres model 340 is now an official product! The production
units have a little different proportions and the grain on the
platter now matches the base.

Development of the new "Reference" motor is wrapped up and the
results are better than I had expected. I am still flabergasted
that small changes in the regulator are so clearly audible. I
really went nuts with the new motor,putting in very expensive parts,
the whole time questioning if it made sense. It turns out that
it does sound significnatly better. But the cost is high enough
that most of the changes do not make sense for a less expensive
turntable. The less expensive changes all made it into the Signature
II motor.

I had only planned to build two of these this year and both were
sold before the product announcement. I have parts to build one
more but it may already be committed. So it looks like it will be
January before any more will be available.

Chris has it listed at $6300.00 for the base, platter, motor and armboard.

If you notice in the description, he is using Bybees in the motor circuit

That thing belongs in an art museum for industrial design! Even if I had six grand to drop on a TT I don't think my room is worthy of it. It looks like it would be at home in some English manor home with wood paneled walls and exquisite antique furniture or something.

Is that belt rubber or a tape-like material?

The belt is made from Mylar film.

There are upgrade kits available to retrofit any Teres motor. I picked one up when I visited Chris to see and hear the 340 the first time.

Mylar film against a high gloss finish? I wouldn't think that would stick very well. I assume it does though...heh!

It is probably mostly pressure, much like the silk string. The slack needs to be pulled fairly tight to get the friction needed to spin the platter.

I use a small silk string. You wouldn't think that had much stick to it either, but it does a very nice job.

Just on looks alone, my 255 got spank big time

Sometimes, it's very difficult for me to do some work when listening to my 255. With the 340.....what work?
