I have for sale one pair of Hyperion HPS-968 Flagship Speakers. These speakers are exceedingly rare, and I have never seen these speakers come up for sale before on AudioCircle. These speakers are used, but are in excellent condition. They are only three and a half months old, and they have seen only average use. So, they are less than 4 months old, and are in excellent condition. They are Hyperion Sound Design, Inc.'s flagship speakers, and they are supposed to be an improvement over the highly awarded, reviewed, and acclaimed, Hyperion HPS-938 speakers in every way. They are highly regarded in the Hyperion HPS-938 owner's thread here on AudioCircle.com, and many authors from famous audiophile websites and magazines have posted their favorable impressions of the Hyperion HPS-968s that they have heard from audio shows. These reviewers' impressions can be found in the threads in the Hyperion 938 owner's circle on AudioCircle.com. These speakers are great sounding speakers from a highly acclaimed and highly awarded audio company that has established a name for itself by its speakers winning many awards. Some owners of Hyperion HPS-938s say that they even compare to Wilson Watt Puppies, and these speakers that I am selling are the Hyperion HPS-968s, Hyperion's flagship model, which are supposed to sound even better than the Hyperion HPS-938s. These speakers are the big brothers of the very highly rated and highly acclaimed Hyperion HPS-938 speaker, and they are supposed to be an improvement over even that speaker. The less expensive speaker in the line, the Hyperion HPS-938 speakers have won the following awards just recently: The Absolute Sound Editor’s Choice Award for 2004, 2005, and 2006, the Six Moons Blue Moon Award, the Enjoy the Music Decade Award, the Enjoy the Music Best of 2004 Award, and The Stereo Times Most Wanted Components Award. The Hyperion HPS-938 speakers were a highly awarded and decorated speaker, and these Hyperion HPS-968 speakers are supposed to have incorporated improvements to the Hyperion HPS-938s that the designers researched and developed after listening to feedback from their customers for the Hyperion HPS-938s and then developing improvements and putting them into their new flagship model, the Hyperion HPS-968s. In June of ’07, which was very recent, Six Moons did a thorough review of these speakers, and gave this particular pair of speakers, the Hyperion HPS-968s, their Blue Moon Award for: “The One To Do It All In The $6K Loudspeaker Category.” Six Moons said that these speakers are great all-around performers without any real weaknesses to them, and are comparable in sound to speakers that cost many times their price. These are a great-sounding pair of speakers. According to a customer testimonial on Hyperionsound.com, one owner even claimed that the Hyperion HPS-938s sound even better than his Wilsons, which cost many times the Hyperions price, and even gave up his Wilson speakers for the Hyperion 938s. The speakers that I am selling are Hyperion's flagship model, the Hyperion 968, which cost much more than the Hyperion 938s, and which reportedly sound even better than them. The reason why I am selling these speakers is not because these speakers do not sound good, or because I have found something better, but because I am moving away from multiple-driver speakers, and getting into single driver speakers instead. I am buying my next pair of speakers without hearing what they sound like first, and so I do not know if my next pair of speakers will sound better than this pair, but I am taking a risk, and hoping for the best. All of these awards can be double-checked and confirmed on the awards that are listed's audio review websites, and the website of Hyperion Sound Design, Inc.: “hyperionsound.com”, and in the Hyperion 938 owner's circle on AudioCircle.com.
For all of you SET lovers, these speakers are also reasonably efficient at 90dB and their impedance is benign, so they are very SET friendly and they are suitable for SET amps. Reportedly, according to the Hyperion 938 owner's circle on AudioCircle, these speakers sound great when paired with 845 SET amps, and according to the chief designer of these speakers, the speakers were designed to be driven by one 300B tube each, and so should work well with low-power SET amps, although more power than that is usually recommended. This speaker also has some unique features, like being tri-wireable, instead of just merely bi-wireable, and also the bottom cabinet containing the base woofers are separate from the top cabinet containing the midrange drivers and the treble tweeter, thus insuring that there are no extra cabinet resonances that interfere with the sound. The top cabinet containing the treble tweeter and the midrange drivers also comes with a Room Reactance Control on the back of the cabinet, which is a potentiometer with 5 different positions, from minus 4 decibels to plus 4 decibels, for adjusting the treble in different room conditions in order to make the speakers sound their best in any listening conditions or situation. The speakers come finished in a high-quality black piano high gloss finish that are worthy of expensive speakers like these.
These speakers are in excellent physical condition, and I would have given them a 9/10 in terms of condition, they do not have any flaws except for ONE tiny 3/8 inch scratch mark on the bottom right corner of one of the lower cabinets. It is above the lower driver and near the edge of the cabinet. The scratch mark is unnoticeable in ordinary daylight and must be looked for in order to be seen. Sorry for the poor pictures, I am not much of a photographer, but rest assured, these speakers do not have any cosmetic flaws or any signs of wear or tear on them other than the 3/8 inch scratch that I just mentioned.
This speaker sale includes all of the original accessories that came with the speakers including the original three point placement bronze bearing spheres for easy installation of the upper cabinet on top of the lower cabinet, the adjustable tilt angle screw mechanism that raises and lowers the angle of the direction of the upper cabinet so that you can adjust it and find the ideal position of the sweet spot, all 8 original brass feet that the speakers originally came with, the jumper cables that the speakers originally came with—just in case you want to bi-wire the speakers using the jumpers, and not bi-wire or tri-wire the speakers using your own speaker cables, and a T-square level complete with a laser pointer which goes inside the level and shines a laser beam onto the wall which helps you to see the angle the upper cabinet is pointed at, to help you to find the ideal sweet spot for the speakers. All of these accessories that came with the speaker can be seen inside the box that they came in in the photo of the accessories that I took above. The speakers also come in all of the original boxes that they first came in, and so the speakers will come double-boxed and well packed and well-protected should you choose to buy them from me.
I cannot ship these speakers as they would be too expensive and it would be too complicated to ship, and so I welcome and encourage local pickup. My asking price for these speakers is $2500, or about 62% off of the retail price that I paid for them new, and they are in excellent cosmetic condition with no flaws which affect their sound quality in any way. This sale may be your chance to buy a good pair of speakers for a very low price that are from a highly acclaimed audio speaker company that are a great value, that sound far better than their retail price of $6500 according to the Six Moons review, and, as the review says, that are a great all-around performer.
