I did not really care for the 5AS4 as well. After a long conversation with another tube vendor today, I think I will be stepping up to a Mullard fat base 5AR4/GZ34 Rectifier and a nice matched pair of 6CG7/6FQ7 RCA cleartop for the signals aa
First off, Jim. I will easily sponsor you into our ever-growing Club. You helped turn me on to Bob Smith and Company; I'm glad to help you through the hazing here.

Just let me know.
Yes, I LOVE the Lessloss PC on the Modwright Transporter (the 36.5 then gets the Black Sand Violet Z1). I switched the two for awhile but like the Lessloss's smooth yet detailed high bandwidth sound on the source. If I had two, the 36.5 would be next.BTW, David (rydenfan) and I are comparing notes and coming up with the same conclusions:We love the GZ32 and/or 5AR4 over the 5U4G(B) as a rectifier, and with the GZ32 find the Sovtek 6N1P's to be slightly forward in the midrange, and somewhat fatiguing vs. 6BQ7's (or David's fave the RCA clear top 6CG7's). I have a couple pair of 6CG7's but had only tried the inexpensive Electro-Harmonix (good, not great). Dan sent me long ago a set of used ugly-looking Zenith 6CG7's which I'll listen to tonight...but am ordering a pair of RCA clear tops ($48/matched pair) to mimic David's setup. Will report back.
Any updates on the LessLoss PC from anyone?
I've just ordered my LessLoss PC The intro deal expires at the end of April, so now's the time to move if you're interested.Tube rollingI've found that the best way for me is to leave the different combo's in for a few weeks and see how they fare. In the past I've tube rolled and heard a difference with new tubes which sounds 'better' but longer listening reveals that I was reacting to a diiference in tonal quality rather than an improvement that I could live with.Interested to hear your feedback on the 6H30's in the TP David.
Quote from: Philistine on 20 Apr 2008, 09:39 pmI will not have the 6H30 DR's till the very end of this week at the absolute earliest, and possibly not till the beginning of the week after so just give me a little time. I can squeeze another 2 or 3 pairs out of him so I like them and someone else want them. They are not cheap though, $250 for the pair.Parts connexion has them for less. $60 each or $125 for a matched pair. I have been using them in my BAT power amp for a while. I bought a stash a while ago, but haven't had my transporter long enough to start tube rolling.

The LessLoss PC is certainly a good call at the special pricing. Will you be placing it on your TP? If so, what do you currently have on it?I will not have the 6H30 DR's till the very end of this week at the absolute earliest, and possibly not till the beginning of the week after so just give me a little time. These are very rare and the guy who sold them to me would prefer to keep them than sell them. I can squeeze another 2 or 3 pairs out of him so I like them and someone else want them. Ken,The last page and a half has been talk about the Lessloss and Black Sand PC's for the Modwright. Just look there. What do you need to know that Rydenfan, Philistine and I haven't already said. As per above, the Lessloss is my preferred PC (and Dan's as well).
Guys:I ordered a ModWright Modified Transporter a week ago and am trying to struggle through the waiting period until it ships/arrives. My current plan is to connect it with a Black Sands Silver PC. I am interested to know if you have found PCs to influence performance and what PC you are currently using? Thanks,Ken
