Your Alzheimers is showing. Thats the Maxell 'Blown Away' poster.

Hence the spin... Is that real or is it Photoshop?
... over my head, windchaser!  I thought it was a comment from someone too young to have seen the ad. I thought that you were younger than you are, now that I look and see mentions of 30 years in audio!

And, of course, the shattering glass goes with the "Live or Memorex" caption. I can't remember if there was a catchy caption to go with this image, though.

I have to go, now - they are telling me that they are serving tea and cookies in the dining room, and there will be a sing-along, too. They take good care of me, here.

The speaker in the poster is the venerable JBL-L-100 Century.

Is that real or is it Photoshop?

Let me guess, this was Chris back in the 1970's standing by the speaker for the very first lone wolf speaker pose when some idiot dropped the stylus in a groove…

Close John.....but no cigar.... :jester:

That was my attempt to visualize to Pat what he can expect when he gets the SP Tech's and McCormack amp set up.....

You can substitute the SP Tech's for the old JBL speaker...and you will get the "Maxell" effect..... aa

You should hear one someday John....it is ..."out of the box".

Hope you OBX2's are doing well..... :thumb:

I thought that you were younger than you are...

Russ,

It's always a let down when a nice young lady says that…  However I once said the same thing to a woman at a jazz festival after establishing eye contact without my glasses.  She was well dressed with beautiful long blond hair, slender and shapely.  She accosted me and introduced herself saying she was a surgeon specializing in cardiology, but my brain went into overload as the picture of the finer details came into focus.  I said something along the lines of “I thought you were younger…”  The embarrassment was mutual.  Now I wear my glasses everywhere.

Chris,

The OB2X are nice, but only having a 2A3 SET at this time is like pulling a train with a tractor.  I’d love to hear the SP TP but I live in the middle of nowhere.  Perhaps there is someone in British Columbia or Alberta who has a pair?

wind chaser:

you got a sound head on your shoulders, dont ever believe anyone stating that their products are superior to everything else, sptech as good as they are, isnt either, alone the fact that sound preference is highly subjektive makes the statement loose a whole lot of validity.

I myself dosnt own any of their products, one reason is that when i had the timepiece 2 it kindda sucked the fun out of my music, though it is by far the best speaker I have ever heard, with the exeption of revalation, and its potential is mindstaggering, it was simply too hard to pair with cables, equipment and recordings.

sptech speakers are the only ones i have ever heard, witch is able to produce realistic sub 100hz output, that combined with the dynamic, imaging and overall realism it truly is in a league of its own.

with the 3.0 version out ill try to give em another try, but i wont go down the same road again, constantly switching gear in order to get a sound i can live with for all my music.

if its only 5% of your recordings that sound like heaven, and the rest is crap, something is wrong, and even though it isnt the speakers fault, they are still at the core of the problem.

to make it short, I agree, sptech is the best speakers at the market today, its not even close, and price is completely irelative, but due to problems with the overall standard of recordings and hifi gear, its far from an easy speaker to work with, and there isnt any guarantee that the standard hifi enthusiasts will ever be happy with a pair of speakers this transparent.

it is so much easier to buy a good colored speaker witch is no where near realistic, but got a smooth sound, and enjoy all your music and never hear what your associated gear sounds like.

Calling all SP Tech-heads:  is there a SP Tech dealer or enthusiastic end-user in the Chicago area who would be willing to participate in a speaker showcase?  I spoke with Bob at SP Tech and they are too swamped to participate at this juncture (not surprising from what I am hearing...)  The other two speaker lines are Intuitive Design Delta Summits and the Ridge Street Audio Sasons.  A friend of mine just heard the SP Revelations and was blown away.  I have not heard the SPs but it would be fun and is along the lines of this thread:  speaker designs that are pushing the box speaker evelope into the 21st century.

That may be true, but for some of us, there's no going back after being exposed to how good recorded music *can* sound.

Though my experience with them is admittedly limited, I think you'll find all the goodness - the dynamics, imaging, tonal accuracy and realism - still there in the new Mundorf crossovers, but the ability to 'play well' with mediocre recordings is much improved.

By that, I mean it probably won't inflict pain.  A bad recording is still a bad recording, and neither Mundorf nor any other capacitor in the crossover is going to make it good... just maybe a bit more palatable.

The day is creeping ever closer, eh Pat?  :thumb:

I'm sorry, but I've forgotten... are you getting the "Full Monty" crossovers, or did you decide to go with the "standard" crossovers housed in the external enclosures?

I seem to recall it's the latter, but I'm certain my short-term memory is slipping at an abnormally rapid pace.  :(

And no, they aren't "on the cold side", unless you consider "real" on the cold side.  You have some of the finest speakers in the world coming your way, Pat, but I promise you they're going to be very different from anything you've ever heard.  Give it some time, get acquainted with them... and definitely don't be too cocked to put 'em on the market.

As I've said many times, no one speaker or speaker manufacturer is for everyone, but the Revs... the Revs are special.  Enjoy!  :D

I was hoping you'd say Edmonton or even Red Earth Creek.  I usually only go as far as Red Deer.  According to Map Quest, to Cold Lake and back is 10 hours. :(

Any chance you're a CFB pilot and you could take me on a rip in F-18?  I'd be seriously tempted...

I flew into there a mere 42 years ago (1966) on a training flight in a T-33. Always wanted to get onto CF104s. Widowmakers. Prolly would have killed myself if I had!
