Congratulations to Team Bryston for what is apparently a towering achievement  :thumb:

Out of curiosity, will Bryston ever make a "digital" amp?

Hi Jon,

We have been researching "Class D" designs for about 10 years now and plan on introducing two 8-channel Class D Zone Amplifiers at the Vegas 2008 CES Show next month.

Hi James,

-any 2-channel class 'd' version in the works?
-will the 'd' amp be cheaper than the solid state counterpart?
-will there be any sonic deterioration/ differences with class 'd' designs?
-doesn't bryston already make class 'd' amps via flying mole?

thanks.

Hi,

1. No 2 channel amps planned

2. Generally speaking the Class D will be a bit cheaper because the are very efficient so they do not require anywhere near the heatsink size. We are using Bryston Linear Power Supplies though so the cheaper, lighter Switching supplies will not be used.

3. At this point we still much prefer the sound quality of our current SST designs.

4. Flying Mole is an independent company and we are in no way associated with their designs.

Can we expect the technology and the "sound" of the 28 B SST to come down to lower models - like 3B and 2B ?

I have a B100 and wish it sounded a bit more like the 28B seems to be.

Thanks

Hi,

The 'technology' in the 28B has to do with the fact that it is a big high powered series amplifier with multiple output devices.  So in the smaller amplifiers like the 2B 3B, B100 etc. the design differences are not applicable.

The beauty of the smaller amplifiers is that they are 'simple and uncomplicated' circuits. It is much easier to build a  great neutral sounding amplifier with minimum circuit complexities then large amplifiers with complicated output stages.
