DVD vs CD

I'm not sure if this is the proper circle for posting this.

I have an Alison Krause DVD which is pretty good sounding(in 2 channel) for a "pop" disc. My wife and friends liked it so much they wanted to be able to listen in the car. I bought them the CD of the same performance. Before bringing the CD to RMAF I decided to listen to it to make sure it sounded the same as the DVD. It certainly didn't. The CD was thin, dry, bright, and more compressed compared to the DVD.
Has anyone else experienced this, or have an explanation?

thanks

Gordy

Would it be possible for you to burn a copy of the cd and compare it to the original cd and report back?  One explanation that makes sense to me is that, since cd's are stamped just as an lp is, variations can occur during the same production run.  This is especially true since, in order to save money, the plants usually run the stampers well past their (as I understand it) life span of 100k pressings, usually closer to 300k!

I'd be real appreciative if somebody could confirm this as true or totally off track!

Thanks, Gordy
