how about a two amp switcher?
« on: 7 Dec 2007, 12:25 am »
a what? well i'm sure i'm not the only one who has both a solid state amp and a tube amp. i run them both through the same speakers and
also use the same source to input into both (my squeezebox). so in order to run my tube amp i have to unplug my squeezebox from the ss amp and plug it into the tube amp. then i have to unplug the speaker wires from the ss amps and plug in the speaker wires from the tube amp. maybe everyone doesn't have the same setup as i do, but i think their are probably people out there that have to switch around some wires in their system on a normal basis. would it be marketable for someone to make a high end audio switcher? almost like dusty does with his 2 channel passive preamps only with speaker line inputs and outputs. i can't find any out there?

okay so they exist-  http://nilesaudio.com/images/PDF/DPS-1_Cutsheet.pdf  -but not very 'audiophile' and only 350w input.

ratso,
You could build your own like this:

Click the pic for the details.

You could work from this circuit and make it manual operation with mechanical DPDT switch, bringing the cost down very low. Speaker binding posts and the switch are all you need.

You may need a dummy load on the output of your tube amp if you intend to keep it on while running the SS amp too. If you shut it down before switching speakers, then no need for dummy load. Some tube amps don't care, but both mine do. Have fun!
