I use one of mine with a Sony TA-P9000ES. It works fine, and I don't see any problem with connection to a digital processor.

Why would using the Carver Pro amps with the Lexicon be a problem? Doesn't it have DAC so conventional amps can be connected with it? The Tripath amps have switching frequencies which aren't easily matched with the digital sampling frequencies of Redbook audio or DVD-audio, so i think you'd use the Lexicon's DAC and feed an analog signal to the Carver, or Carvers, they're cheap and good enough to consider them for all your audio channels.

Is the consensus here that it's a mistake to use these amps with a digital processor like the Lexicon MC-12/8? Has anyone here done it? I know this is a 2-channel crowd but I'm considering these amps for my 626R/LRC front speaks. Thanks.

Maybe I'm having a problem understanding passive preamplification . Right now I'm just doing as much homework as possible on these amps and I thought I read they work best with a passive preamp. I think the MC-8 has digital volume control.

I recently asked this question on the SMR Forums.  The MC-8 does not use a digital volume control.  It uses a digitally controlled analog volume control.

Hi,

I'm using my ZR 1600 with a Conrad Johnson Motif MC8 SS preamp and I'm very happy with the results. These amplifiers are sensative enough to use very nicely with passive preamplification though, so if you like the idea of passive components, I see no reason not to use them.
