subwoofer set-up
« on: 22 Nov 2007, 02:54 pm »
I have a couple of questions regarding sub set-up. I have a Sony CDP X77ES connected with the variable outs to a Bryston 4B- Bryston to 2 main speakers. I would like to add my sub to system. Sub has 2 low level female rca inputs- 4(2-left, 2-right) bare wire inputs and  4 (2-left, 2-right) bare wire outputs to speakers.  I also have a Conrad Johnson PV 10a Pre (currently being shipped to me, I believe it has 2 sets of line out) that I would like to use for phono-digital music from comcast-tape and ipod.  The amp only has 2 rca inputs.  Should I use a rca  splitter sending one signal from preamp to amp and other signal to sub? Does this degrade signal? Can I continue to run my Sony CDP direct to amp (again with splitter at amp) or am I going to have to run it through preamp. Thanks guys

I don't know what sub you have or what it's like but I use RCA y adapters in my setup from the pre-out and run RCAs to my sub and it works great.

what is the output impedance of the pre and input impedance of the power amps?

In my set-up I had 600 ohm output and input at the pre/power and >1K at the subs, and that allowed me to put a splitter at the pre and send output to both the subs (2 of them) and the power without any loss at the power amps.
