Truth be told... they are not a visually appealing speaker. The Horn/waveguide on top looks almost foreboding.

That's why many of us might be better off blind.  Without visual distraction we'd listen and hear much better, we'd make better choices about the women we get involved with, everything would taste better and we’d probably be more in touch with our feelings and become more sensitive creatures.  Hell, I'm about ready to gouge out my eyes!

Though the incredible reviews about their sound kind of negate the visual downside.

That won't be the case for everyone.  Clayton might have to come out with a super expensive eye candy version.  It would sell even if it didn't sound quite as good as the CS2.

An eye candy version probably would not be hard to get done since the "cabinet" is so simple.  Just do a version with no sock and have the board auto-shop painted or veneered.  The metal base already looks nice.

Edit: Oops, forgot my "not" and it made me sound dumb (well, dumber than usual).  :)

Another comment Clayton made last weekend was that the waveguide and aluminum base could be painted using automotive paint, and that different colored socks were being evaluated.  I believe he mentioned that one customer already ordered a pair with a Ferrari red waveguide.  (My attention was half on the music at the time, so I may be off in some of the details.)

I'm interested to hear what these are like.  I've always wanted to try open baffle (mated to DSP), as this design makes the most logical sense to me.

I will check into this and get back to everybody.

Rocket Ronny mentioned this idea a few years back, but one look at those Behringer DEQ operation manuals was enough to nix that idea.  Again, in the same way Apple made computers "user friendly", so has Emerald Physics become the harbinger of a new age in loudspeaker design.

In releasing the CS2, they should have waited for the Super Bowl.

Clayton can make the speaker so it will have a sock that covers the entire speaker (including the waveguide and tweeter) so it will look more like a Maggie.  Clayton can adjust for the fact the waveguide and tweeter are covered via settings on the DCX-2496.  That is how mine will come in a couple weeks, so I will snap a photo when I receive the speakers.   At least I got past the WAF factor by taking my wife to RMAF so she was able to hear how good the speakers sounded in person.  :D

Thanks Chris, I think you have created a trend and was just doing my part to keep it going.  aa

Just my opinion. Though the incredible reviews about their sound kind of negate the visual downside.

I think just the opposite. I love the Black monolith look. I would not compromise any sound quality for aesthetics even if were possible.

George,

Have you got the speakers dialed in now? How difficult was the set up? Do you anticipate people needing a lot of support? How do they sound now that you're living with them?

Wow, I've never known such fevered anticipation over a product.  I seem to remember you dropping your trousers a couple of times recently at the thought of select audio equipment.  But you haven't even heard these, yet you're already onto the "2nd coming"?  That smidgen of you that's Irish Catholic might need a smidgen of a visit to the confessional.

Joe,

They are coming along nicely and I will post some comments soon.

They aren't difficult to setup and the manual is very straight forward and easy to follow.

I don't believe people will need a lot of support, but I will know for sure in the coming weeks as my first few customers receive their speakers.

Hopefully this weekend I will be trying tubes with the CS2's for the first time.

Best speakers I have owned or heard...NO.

But I don't believe I have yet come close to getting all I can out of them.

Time will tell where they rank, but they are up there.   :thumb:

Sounds like fun. You will need the heat this weekend with the cold front coming thru.
Toasty warm with tubes 8)

Last summer there was a period when I was burning in 8 EXtreme Hurricane mono blocs at one time. This was shortly after the flood and our central air unit was no good being under water for so long. Boy did it get 'warm' in here :icon_twisted:
