Couple more pics.

Hey, great job getting rid of that orange peel! Now you just need to do something about those fingerprints and I think you'll be good to go. :green:

Absolutely beautiful work,Denny. Simply breathtaking!!!!

350 lbs a side! :o :o :o :o
Just the shipping part should make for some interesting stories.

You have no idea how mundane and Bose-like you've made my living room appear.   :green:

Yeah Steve, protectiing wet finishes is hell isn't it?  First, he wet sands out the orange peel, then some big warehouse guy picks them up while they're still wet.

Not bad. I see a little orange peel in the finish, but other than that... :green:

Gorgeous! Great job, Denny!

DGO,

Still wondering (like others) what the beautiful veneer species actually is on those?

We had 2 highly figured Anegre veneer 4' x8' sheets done up for these ( just to give an idea on cost, the veneer was $200 per sheet). The color is custom as well. It's analine dye. We made a color chart, photographed it in sunlight, and indoors, and emailed it to the customer. We blended 2 colors from that chart 50/50, and also did some mild glazing in the clearcoats to give it some more warmth and softness.

Here's the veneered enclosure showing the heavy figure after 2 coats of vinyl sealer.

The finish is a true piano finish. After spraying somewhere between 15 to 18 coats of clear, we let the finish cure as long as we can. Then it's wet sanded with 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Then it's 4 stages of polishing with a high speed buffer. The final stage is a glaze. We don't wax them, as it would be a serious liability. These weigh over 300 lbs a piece, and it would be very difficult to get a proper grip to install and stand them up.

Cheers

Jesus Christ. It must take you forever to finish an enclosure!

Klh,

I'm not sure what the finish has to do with Christ.  Might consider leaving him out of "speaker finishing" threads.  Just a thought.

Thanks Denny.  My father was in the furniture finishing/cabinet design business for 40 years, so I have an appreciation for the extra-ordinary effort that went into making these so unique :thumb:

I agree Tom. A good cabinet maker is like an artist and anyone that is capable of producing results such as this earns the right to be proud of themself. It has to be a labor of love.

awesome looking stuff. Have a question. I decided to do something similar with my ob7. Black front and glossy veneer sides. Whats the best way to compensate for the slight width difference between the baffle and sides? The sides with veneer and multiple coats (poly maybe?) should be maybe 1/16-1/8 in wider than the baffle. I guess I could cut the baffle a little wider (don't know if that slight difference would affect frequency response), or I could make the internal braces a little less wide to compensate, but it would be guessing. Sorry for the mini hi-jack, PM me if wanted.

Thanks
