Krell KAV 250A...your thoughts.

Krell KAV 250A...your thoughts.

I can pick this Krell KAV 250A amp for a very good price. If anyone has first hand listening experience with it I would appreciate your thoughts. There is just no way I can listen to it before purchasing. That's one of the pitfalls of buying used gear. You have to rely on feedback & reviews.

I would say my system is on the warm side with a CJ PV14LS2 tube pre & a Tube Audio DAC feeding a pair of AAD 2001 monitors. My thoughts are that the Krell would work nicely. Your thoughts please.

If you got it for very good price and you don't like it, then it shouldn't be a problem to flip it.
You need to hear it in the context of your own home and system to know if it is right for you.

i think you can do much better.  unless you get Krell FPB, going Krell isn't worth it.

you may be able to solve your issues by rolling your tubes.  tubes don't have to equal warmth.  that being said, i find the lower end of the Krell line to be very cool and analytical, of course i'm used to tubes so I tend to judge amps on the midrange.

That's exactly my thinking. I know that you should try to give any new gear a listen before purchasing, but that's not always possible. This is one of those cases, I live in NJ & the amp is coming from FLA. But due to the very attractive price, I have no problem trying this amp in my system. If it turns out that I don't like the system synergy, I'll have no problem selling it for what I paid. I did a google search & the amp receives excellent reviews, hence my purchasing decision.

I had a Kav-500 in the past...I thought it was a good amp (although I used it mostly for center and rear speaker duty...along with a Ksa-250 driving the mains).

I did hook it up to my Apogee speakers for around a month when another amp broke down (Ksa-250)...it did a nice job filling in.

The Kav amps sound best in a warm system like yours. They are not what you could call warm sounding.
