Ok my current setup is this:
Onix XCD-99>>VH Audio Pulsars>>Luminous Audio Axiom>>VH Audio Pulsars>>2 Monarchy Audio SM-70 Pros>>Synergistic Research Alpha Speaker Cables>>JM Labs Chorus 706 speakers.

and it sounds pretty good but its too much for my smaller apartment. I plan on keeping my speakers and cables but the rest can go.

Im looking at a Jolida 302b tube integrated and a Music Hall CD25.2 cd player
or a
Music Hall A25.2 integrated amp and a Jolida JD100 tube cd player.

or any other combos in the $1100 area.

I like rock, reggae, techno, jazz, folk, country, RAP and R&B. I like a punchy warm, yet detailed sound with drive.

Anyone have experience with any of these pieces?

I'd say the Jungson JA-88D fits this description spot on. It's a beautiful sounding integrated with plenty of power. You can pick one up used in the 8-900$ range. That's what I'd get, and I just keep your current source.

Why not just use one of the SM-70s with a Squeeze Box?  You can't save much more space without giving up something else (speakers, performance).  I understand that the SM-70 performs better as monoblocks, but the change in room size/quality could make more difference.

You'd be going from 80 wpc to 25 wpc.  Thats only a 5 dB drop, which could be fully compensated for by moving into a smaller room.  Besides, don't you have the space to just stack them?

The Squeeze Box is small, has a remote with volume control, also inputs internet audio streaming (radio), can be modded (see Bolder Audio circle below), and is in the future direction of audio.  It can sit on top of the SM-70.  With the money you're talking about you might do the mods on the Squeeze Box up front.

Minimalist to me is a one box solution.

Music Hall makes one as does Arcam, Audio Analogue, and a few others manufacturers.

Add speakers and you are done.

How about using your iPod ( if you have one) driving a tube buffer, driving a pair of Audio Engine A5 speakers.You would be very happy and surprisped by what you will hear, maybe get the ipod modded by Vinnie.

No amps or preamps , and asssociated cables needed.

Why is it too much for a smallish room? You have a volume control don't sha? It sure sounds just right for any size room to me. I agree with the {Minimalist to me is a one box solution} statement. If you're looking to downsize, why not just replace the amps? hell you could get a good Odyssey Stratos and save some room w/o losing anything?

Isn't the XCD99 literally the same player as the Music Hall CD25.2?  If you want to replace it for aesthetic reasons that's one thing, but I'm almost positive they have the same guts.  If I were you I'd probably spend my money on the Underwood mods.
