Seem to be talkin to myself these days but I gotta share this customer feedback with you I just got today, really, using some Von Schweikert speaks (real close to RMAF headquarters actually):

"Jim, after a week of use on the VR1s and VR4JRs I'm convinced these pads are not going back.  I really like what they do each of my systems.  Overall the impact of the pads seems to be to create sharper transients, more detailed imaging and improved image focus and significantly truer-sounding instrument timber.  The general impression is for instruments and vocals to have more of a live performance sound with the sound becoming freed of the speaker boxes.  And finally, while nothing actually sounded harsh before the pads, with the pads there seems to be a more effortless, natural-sounding presentation of the music - as though there was some harshness I wasn't aware of that is now gone.  It feels like I'm finally hearing what my system is capable of, what I've expected with every other upgrade and never found , and finally hear. Thanks for a giving me the sound I've been looking for.

Next week, RMAF is in town and I was looking forward to attending in order to hear a few speakers I've been interested in.  But with these improvements, and the dreadful state of the economy, I can't imagine I'm going to hear anything that can beat what I now have with your pads, without paying what my entire system costs just for speakers.  I think you just helped me get off of the upgrade bandwagon.  Joe G."

Nice fellow.

It's been brought to my attention by a fellow I respect that I have been coming across a bit hostile and desperate sounding lately.  OK, maybe that's an understatement.  I just want to stay in the limelight.  I think it's the best return on investment fifty five bucks can give some people.  I removed the last paragraph from the above post for this reason and won't repeat my mistake going forward.  Thanks, AC and fellow subscribers, and pardon me, please.   Jim

Jim,

And just as I was going to PM you about the good PMs we've been having - Very open and honest w/ each of us speaking his mind w/out offending the other, even if we disagree.

At least I know in private that you are not hostile and desparate (maybe I didn't push you hard enough!)

I wouldn't sweat it too much...

Jim - While I can understand some folks' position on your style, I for one always enjoy your candid and enthusiastic remarks. Your product's effectiveness and affordability warrants such enthusiasm. You go guy!

Agreed. Just get a better fastening system, Jim.

Amen to all the above Jim!   :thumb:
I have to admit it's been tough to post as a certain speaker manufacturer is very active regarding his products.     Anyway, I and another fellow audiophool in these parts uses the masked bandits and we really enjoy what they do for the sound.  Btw, I successfully dyed mine and achieved a pretty cool charcoal coloring.  It's not meant to be beautiful but it's hard to ignore what they offer.

I use 6 small squares of velcro, 3 on top, 3 on the bottom with masking tape on the veneer. Haven't had any problems but I do agree that 2 squares of velcro isn't enough to hold that dense wool pad in place. It's no big real to simply add more tho,,,, especially for the $50 pricetag. aa Still, this is a much better deal IMHO than spending $50 on a undigitize CD.  :thumb:

Maybe TONEPUB should invest $50 on Jim's Diffractionbegone woolie pads for review if he'll so easily thru away $100 on black CD-R's? :o

Cheers,
Robin

I know the speaker fellow to whom you refer.  Say hello to that other audiophool for me.  "Masked bandits" . . cute.  Happy listening.

New customers recieve this message in addition to mounting instructions in their packets:  "All the information your system is capable of resolving from those bits and grooves in your recordings divest itself at the end of the line as sound waveforms.  These dense wool pads will insure that the information those waveforms carry is delivered to your listening position free of time and phase error caused by reflection off your speaker baffles (diffraction) not present in the recorded event."

Thought I'd post it to help explain the potential benefit to new browsers (those using conventional box speakers with surface mounted tweets) and bump me thread.  Suffer me, thanks.

Jim,

Have you approached Tone or Affordable Audio about a review?

No, MCA, I have not.  Been reviewed in Stereomojo and Audiophile Audition.  Got a Golden Ear Award from TAS.  Believe I will approach them.  Thanks.  I appreciate it.

Got this just last night as a follow up to comments made earlier by a fellow using Von Schweikert VR4jr's and VR1's-  Two nghts ago I had a friend over, a professional musician (bassist), and he was amazed at the realism my system now produces.  Said it was the closest he'd ever heard a home system produce what sounds like a live venue.  Joe G.

Removing diffraction effects just allows more tranparency to the event is all whatever it happens to be.  What I make just preserves the integrity of waveforms at their point of departure and what they carry (i.e. the sum total of what your system and investment is capable of resolving).  It cost $55.95 a set.  Arguably the bargain of the century (the last one, too).

Wind-  Can't say that I know the answer to your question specifically, quite.  To better help me to answer, I would like more information from you.  Indulge me a PM that I will send after a short time.  Thanks.

Or he could read this thread and gather what he needs to know from all the others who have tried them?

Here's what Jim's Woolie Surrounds do for my Lorelei's. Since this picture was taken, I have dyed mine Gold Ochre so to better match up with the oak veneer. (www.spinnerschoice.com) :D My observations are already in this thread as are those of many, many others do have tried Jim's Woolie's. :thumb:

HA HA.  This is beyond "thread" classification and more like a book now.  If it had an index or at least a good table of contents, that would help.  Perhaps Robin could be appointed to doing Jim the favor or organizing all the information as such. :whip:
