Just thought I would let any and all know that I have begun to fit for speakers with off set tweeters so long as the cabinet isn't greater than 8" wide. 10.5" for conventionally centered tweeters. Cabinets larger than that would be a custom job. Jim

Yes, indeedy, mon ami Val. In a PM, please tell me the distance from the center point of your tweeter to the edge of the near side of your cabinet AND the distance from the top of your cabinet to center point of your tweeter / your tweeter's actual diameter / and the distance from the center point of your tweeter to the top of your mid/bass mounting basket. Clear as a bell? Let me know if you have any questions.

Just to put my 2 cents in. I think these wool surrounds are a best buy tweak. I have had them on for about three weeks. What I notice most is more focus and less distortion. My soundstage is slightly smaller but I gained more depth. Not bad for $30.00. Good job Jim.

Must admit, Sturg, I’m a might puzzled by your experience of a smaller stage. It’s certainly not that way around here. Might I suggest that you are hearing less of a queue from your speakers. Turn out the lights completely like we used to do when we were younger and see if you still feel thataway. Don’t know about you, but I use less of a toe-in than before. But, I know you’re happy

In regards to a smaller soundstage, I've used F13 and F11 wool felt for diffraction control on my Scanspeak Revelators- similiar to what's being done here. In all configurations I have experienced a slight reduction in sweetspot size and soundstage width and height.
I have also experienced much greater image stability, soundstage depth and tamed peaks and room resonance from felting. For me the trade off is a no brainer, and I am a real believer in felting. However, if I had a perfectly designed and treated room I believe my speakers might sound better with out it. I'll probably never be able to test that theory though

I think I may have a room like that. Dimension wise, ay any rate, and for the size speakers that I use. However, I don’t use any wall treatment because the virtual stage is most always convincingly real. Speaker placement with my seat and the distance from my room boundaries in combination are contributing to this, no doubt. Imagery is pretty physical regardless of where they appear on stage and they stay put and have characteristics that make me think they are real. My speakers replaced large panel speakers in this room by the way. And you know that thing called listener fatigue . . anybody notice it missing? Enjoy . .

Want to throw out a big "Merry Christmas" shout of thanks to Jim Goulding, and two thumbs up for his product.

The short version of the story is that Jim did a wonderful piece of custom felt surround work for each pair of tweeters for my Polk SDA 1-C speakers. His patience and guidance throughout the process was much appreciated, and his willingness to go the extra mile to make sure everything was just right was warmly appreciated. Jim, you're quite the gentleman, and your help and winning manner are greatly appreciated.

So, does the product work as advertised? That's a resounding "yes" in my system to my ears. The results I'm hearing are akin to the positives elsewhere posted in the thread: better imaging (and the speakers imaged well before), speakers seem to disappear, improved depth of soundstage (which I felt was already good to go), etc. Additionally, the Polk's SDA effect has been even more enhanced (which at first thought seems reasonable and consistent with the improved imaging others have mentioned; however, Polk does the SDA effect with a combination of 4 drivers in each speaker (2 regular, 2 SDA), so somehow my brain is interpreting the change to the tweeters / highs as improving the SDA effect.). My 1Cs are absolutely more enjoyable to me. I'm wicked glad I've held on to these speakers; Jim's product has brought them to a new, improved level of refinement.

I note that each Polk speaker has a pair of tweeters that are: 1) positioned vertically one above the other, 2) positioned atop (not flush) with the speaker face board, and 3) time aligned with the drivers. Jim's craftsmanship / ability to custom cut the felts to relatively close tolerances was impressive and necessary for the installation to succeed in this application. Also, I needed additional Velcro as compared to simpler installations, which Jim was happy to provide. So, thanks again Jim for a job extremely well done, and I'm pleased to consider myself a 100% satisfied customer.

It's two self-adhesive pads per speaker, just at the top of each cover. Strong enough to hold but easy to remove if necessary.

Is there a reason why the pad has to be so big? It covers almost the entire speaker width. Can it not be just a small ring around the tweeter?

I think that's the whole point mate, it completely removes diffraction from the tweeter.

Here's a couple of shots of my M22s with the baffle covers in place. I think they look really nice actually.

Jim, would it be detrimental or beneficial to create a surround which covers the whole of the baffle?

Barry, depending on the frequency, the signal has different lengths, correct? So therefore the entire front of the speaker is reflecting the (shorter) tweeter outputs. That's why the front edges of your HT3's are rounded.

Steve- Hi. I looked for your model at Aurum's website but couldn't find it. Perhaps you can direct me to a photo. But, I have fitted for what I believe is a Fountek ribbon on a pair of Selah speakers. Ribbons sometimes vary in length and how they are set in the baffle. Filterlab- Not as much benefit to be had cause the wavelengths are longer than your, and most, dynamic speaker enclosures are wide. Longer wavelengths will wrap around their enclosures to be reflected later in time by room boundaries sometimes to the detriment of frequency response.
