I just saw the same story, but originating from Australia.  That version stated that he always was changing his CD's out with 'beer soaked fingers' and noticed a fungus growing after a few days of laying around (presumable the cd's, not him?).

How much of a scientific background do you need to figure out that if fungus grows on a CD that it might affect the sound? :roll: It's amazing what passes for "news" these days.
