At the $2995.00 price, you are getting the stock Behringer DCX2496.

There are already a few Emerald Physics dealers or other vendors looking into mods for the DCX2496.

I am exploring the possibility of having a modified DCX2496 be part of a package I would offer my customers.

You do not have to use the analog input on the DCX2496, you can feed it a digital signal if you like.  Depending on a each person's setup, a preamp may or may not be required.

Perhaps having this might solve the dilema :

With that in place the DCX becomes a full fledge preamp and is able to only use digital input for maximum fidelity.

Just wanted to share a link to a tweak shop on the net for that unit. I don't know anything about this stuff, not sure if any of these would be ok with the custom unit from Emerald Physics...

they also have a remote control master volume control for the 6 channels -i guess it could be considered a preamp

hey guy's

this speaker looks real cool but can it really do 20hz at only -3db down.

there are subs that we use that are 18's and 15's in the pro world that can only do like in the mid to upper 30's.


if it can and I'm not saying it can't, that is pretty freaking impressive.

i would love to hear them myself. anybody in the city?

It is doing it by using equalization.

While I didn't measure anything at RMAF, it sure sounded like it gets there or very close.

Pretty scary stuff...

you and i went around a few times together at RMAF and seem to agree for the most part on what sounds right. So i guees these speakers probbly do sound very good.

Anyway i could here them?

I was in LA this year for work and couldn't make it.

Clayton,

I admire the fresh thinking manifested in your outstanding debut and believe the CS2 can succeed on it's own merit without costly advertising or critical acclaim from commercial reviews.  The idea of integrating Digital Signal Processing technology on an open baffle is one thing, the successful execution quite another.

This is reminiscent of personal computers.  Until Apple came along with the graphic user interface people were fascinated but equally intimidated.  In like manner Emerald Physics has made DSP technology as easy to use as an automatic transmission.  That's not merely innovative, but brilliant – especially in conjunction with an open baffle.

I do have a question with reference to the specified sensitivity.  A speaker rated that sensitive should play fairly loud with a flea amp, however taking into account low frequencies and the balancing act of digital EQ, is that realistic or not?

Thanks for your kind comments.

The upper range amp can be very small due to the 100dB sens. and nearly flat impedance magnitude.

Due to EQ boosting and a 4 Ohm load in the lower range, the amp should be of around 100W or so into 4 Ohms. The only tube amp I have tried on the bottom end is a Genesis M60 - KT88 based push-pull design of 50W. It worked well as long the volume was reasonable.

So a 2A3 or 45 on top with a brute SS on the bottom should work fine?

Yes, level matching between the two amps will probably be required. This is done in the DCX2496.
