AE-3 or Foreplay for NAD C370 ?

Hi, I have been contemplating of getting a better preamp to replace the preamp section of my NAD C370. I am expecting for a smoother,warmer,fuller and better Bass sounding. Wonder which one would be a better match ?(AE-3 or Bottlehead Foreplay ?). Your opinion and suggestions is highly appreciated and thanks in advance

I love my foreplay. I used it with a NAD 3020 integrated for a while and it improved the sound a lot. I have no experience with the other pre you mentioned.

If so, the Foreplay is probably better supported in terms of modifications. It will outperform the stock AE-3 but only with the modificaitons suggested, such as the Anticipation and Auricap upgrades.

The Foreplay looks very different from most gear, so either you have to like the look or be able to construct a different box.

Simon,

Both pre-amps will get you tube sound, both will provide good soundstage, imaging, and a warm sound driving your NAD. Are you building this as a kit, or already finished?

It would suggest to have a listen to a good 12au7 based preamp, and a good 6SN7 based preamp. They sound very different. Generally as long as the circuit is done correctly, a 6SN7 will sound more lush than a 12au7. Let your own ears decide.
