Etymotic Research ER-20 HF-Fi earplugs.  Don't you miss the volume knob when you are at a live amplified concert?  Place the ER 20 into your ears so they are barely inserted.  Listen.  If the dbs are too much, twist the plug and push further into your ear (within reason of course).

If you tend to avoid amplified live music or use the usual earplugs (which deaden the music), you might want to give these a a try.

I'll second the recommendation - I got pairs of ER-20's for my wife and I.  They do a much better job at evenly reducing the loudness than most earplugs.

Yes, you betcha! That's why I now mostly attend classical music events. It's amazing the actual volume level achieved at one. Made me realize most people play recorded music WAY TOO LOUD!!

My brother was with me to a hifi show here...
And he asks the poor dude on the stand..

"and if you have a party, you can play loud ... like LOUD ... will the speakers blow then?"
The dude on the stand looks at my brother and says: " well if you play to ldud you blow the speakers...
So my brother replies: " Like, how loud would that be ...?" he is a big smile now by the way ... the dude he is talking to is NOT smiling..

Of course my brother is a fan of playing games... but the dude showing off his product could never tell...   
He's just thinking: " fuck ... fuck .... fuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!" 

Of course my smart ass brother uses earplugs at concerts ... the latest one being a Metallica concert where they playd FREEKIN loud..
