At last count I was around $25k. The beauty? I don't pine for anything. I love my setup which hasn't changed in 6 months. That is a ridiculous statement I know, without knowing where I came from which was constant stress, wondering, thought-calories, and all the other negative stuff that goes along with this ridiculous pursuit. Oh yeah, and probably 6 gear swaps a year, for years. If someone told me "this is it, no more upgrades, ever" I wouldn't be heartbroken. Coming to this realization has been a revelation and the hobby is so much more fun when you aren't bummed about your setup. It's like going to weddings after you're married or looking for a job when you already have one.
Fun to play with stuff? Sure! I'm not saying I won't ever change gears again but I've promised myself I won't sell anything to pay for something else without hearing at home first. If I buy something, it has to be in the house to compare to the existing piece and the best stays. Or, if they're both really great maybe the collection grows by one.
