Anyone heard the NAD L-70?
« on: 2 Sep 2003, 11:02 pm »
All:

I am searching for something easy for my little semblance of a theater.  I don't want anything expensive, or large.  I like the idea of all in one.  Has anyone heard the NAD?

Also, what about the Linn Classik Movie?  What else is out there?

Isn't the L-70 a combo CD/receiver?  I had a NAD 3020 receiver and a NAD CD player.  No complaints, honest/inexpensive products.  NAD compares in the audio world to Nissan in the auto world.

The Linn would be several steps up in price and more quirky.  Not sure about reliability.  It would be a Saab.

(I've owned both brands of cars mentioned, no slams intended.)

For relatively inexpensive, but very good HT speakers I'd highly recommend Ascend Acoustics CBM-170's.  They're about $160 each, 12" x 8" x 7" 2-ways, 70 - 20,000 Hz, 89 dB/w/m, 8 ohm.  Black pebbled vinyl finish, 1" recessed tweeter/6" aerogel woofer, rear 1/4" x 20 threaded insert.  High content value, just not much to look at.  Sonically they blow away any B&W, Paradigm, or Dynaudio at 3 times the price.  Those provide black and white outlines of music, the Ascends paint with color.  I've got a 2-channel HT setup with a cheap DVD and UNSUCCESSFULLY factory reconditioned Harmon Kardon stereo receiver with the Ascends and a Hsu VTF-2 sub.  The sub is definitely the weak link 9 (when the HK is working - left channel has blown twice after maybe 20 hours of use).

JL:

The L-70 is a full featured receiver with DVD player, DTS, DPLII, etc. . .

I went to audition it tonight.  It's pretty good, but the fags that work there are morons, and I WILL NOT buy from there.  Any good places for NAD online?

If I were in the All-in One market today, I would try the Sony AVD-C70ES or AVD-C50ES. There is a current discussion of this unit available on this site:

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=2297

One of the posters commented that it is better than his Sony STR-DA4-ES and Sony DVD/SACD player setup. I know that's pretty good as I use the Sony STR-DA4-ES in my HT setup.

The AVD-C70ES is only $700 and includes a progressive DVD/MC SACD player, 120 w/ch. of Digital amp power and all of the features of an HT receiver.

BTW, I saw a AVD-C50-ES for $350 on AudiogoN earlier today!!

Also, I have not heard the NAD, but wanted to provide another option.

Enjoy,

Anyone know if these Sony all-in-1s are multivolt, e.g. will work on 220v as well as 110v?

I'm very interested but these models don't seem to be available in Hong Kong.
