Breaking News: The new Quantum Reference Speaker Cable filter will be available in July.  The QRSC filter does wonders to clean up RFI/EMI in speaker applications.  Unlike typical speaker cable filters that inject added brightness into the signal, the QRSC remains neutral, increases low level resolution and extension, tightens bass, enhances natural midrange warmth, detail and texture, increases top end extension, sweetness, and detail.

Alan,
Sounds VERY interesting.  Do you have a photo of a prototype and a rough "guesstimate" at pricing?
Thanks
Chris

Chris

The price for a pair should be roughly $450.  No pixs until I dress the package, but the case is 2.5" x 1.5" x .8"...its very small.  Currently I'm using Eichmann copper bayonet plugs, but spades can be ordered as well.  I plan to add Velcro on the rear of the case for easy mounting.

I love the huge soundstage these babies throw, but they need a good 500 hours of burn-in before they sound at their best.  The QRSC offers full bodied sound with unbelievable harmonic richness.

How is the new Quantum filter working out?

Hi Allan
A couple of pages back I see a company you use for surge protection, namely Electronic Specialties. Anyway I got in touch with them and they are looking into custom making  a laboratory grade, 8 socket surge/filter power strip with New Zealand sockets for myself. Now when they come back to me they want to know if it's to be 10,15 or 20 amp.Since you are familiar with their products would you mind suggesting one.On to your own products, would the quantum ac be just as effective plugged into the power strip as opposed to a wall socket or is there a better way to optimize.
Thanks Brett

Brett,

I would recommend a 20 amp model.

The Quantum AC will be fine plugged into the filter.

Update: Only a few Reference II filters left in stock.  The next time I will be offering the Reference II will be early July.

The first Infinity product will be offered in July.  The filter is a DIY tweakers dream...it can be used to filter dac chip/processor, spare a/c receptacles around the home (I love this tweak), circuit breakers, ribbon power cords, interconnects, & speaker cables, power supplies, etc.  The effect of Infinity is compounded when more are added around the home.  We will be offering dedicated models designed for standard interconnect, speaker, power cord filtering, and large power supplies / transformers.

At this time we have no plans to design an overseas conditioner, but if we receive multiple request we will definitely consider taking on the project.  Right now I'm focused on putting the finishing touches on our upcoming Infinity project.

I would be interested in the new feet. I am currently using a mix of Herbie's feet and isonodes under my components. I also would like to know how these Infinity filters would work on ribbon power cords. I have a pair of Fusion Audio copper foil/ribbon hybrids on my monoblocks. The ribbon cords are plugged into a dual outlet Hotbox with Alan's Reference power cord to the wall. Under that is a standard PE. I look forward to hearing the feedback from the beta testers.   :D

Sherod

We have two models coming out to handle a variety of different weight requirements.

NOTE: After the feet have been installed they require 72 hours to adjust to the room and component temp to maximize the damping properties.

The large feet are good for all components between 40 and 80 lbs., speakers, computer/HTPC, etc.

Infinity creates negative ions when in close proximity to a EM field, it will remove static generated noise from the ribbon cables.

I must have either strange hearing or strange wiring in my house. I currently have four standard PE and one Reference II walwarts throughout my house and they all seem to sound the best when plugged in series. Anywhere after( parallel) the sound becomes dull while diminishing dynamics. I tried especially hard in the kitchen( fridge, microwave, etc.) but all sounded too dull. Oh well. I really like all the PE units where they are now. It is interesting how even though they all need a good amount of time to settle in, the key is to find that one brightest outlet and listen for about 10-15 minutes and you'll know if it is going to work in that outlet. I have really appreciated what this new Reference II has done to the overall sound. Great realism and brings out the natural color and texture of instruments and voice. I like it. Oh, and Alan's new Reference power cord has been a nice addition as well. Don't forget to put the QSG on all your contacts. This is a must-have icing to your cake.   aa

NEWS: The Infinity DIY Filter is now available.

http://alanmaherdesigns.com/Infin.aspx

Here is a copy of the latest review:

Infinity DIY Filter:

"I have been privileged to audition a few of Mr. Maher's new Infinity filters. I can only say, "Thanks, Alan!", because, as usual, Alan has hit a HOME RUN! These little gems act like distortion sponges, sucking up nasties from any and all sources, all the way from your panel box (installed directly over specific key breakers produced an enormous "WOW!" factor) to your power cords, ICs and anywhere else you might have a mind to place them. Alan's website provides guidance, but let your imagination be your guide. These little babies can go anywhere, with their credit-card sizing and BIG SONIC WALLOP! Expect an over-all lessening of sonic hash, especially mids and high frequencies. This provides a dramatic increase in the low level detail we can perceive, thereby creating a truly monstrous, deep soundstage with precise image placement within the soundfield. Each instrument in massed ensembles appeared to stand out as strikingly individuated, but more importantly, with tonally distinct imaging. This, in turn, gives an uncanny three dimensionality to the instruments or performers recorded, along with a naturalness and sweetness of tone that is truly 'to die for'. Did I say Alan hit a, "Home Run"? At $25 bucks a pop, it's more like a GRAND SLAM!

Again, Alan Maher comes through with a common-sense scientific solution to a problem many of us don't even know we suffer from. But just pop a few of these little black distortion sponges into your system as Alan's website suggests, and prepare to be absolutely BLOWN AWAY! (He should have named these guys "Nitros" or "Cute Nukes"!)

Well, now that I reflect on it a while, maybe "Infinity" filter makes a lot more sense as the name. Because once you try them, you'll want them in your system forever, and your sound stage will seem to extend, "... to Infinity and beyond!" (as Buzz Lightyear might say.)

In fact, I just placed an order for 10 more. It'll be the best $250 bucks I'll drop on audio this year. And I'll probably order more soon, as well, once these ten little guys get used.

I better face it: I'm addicted.

But audio IS an addiction. Let's face it: we're all sound-cravers and audio-addicts. And Alan Maher Designs simply has the sweetest 'stuff' for our aural 'needs'. I'm really glad Alan is around to help us discover what our systems can really do. He's my kind of 'dealer', and audio is my kind of 'habit': one that brings tears to your eyes with every achingly beautiful aria, or movement to your feet with every swinging note!

Thanks, Alan! Your new Infinity Filter is a ...... BIG WINNER! (Fill my order soon, please... ) ~ Michael Danis"
