Kool Cables(KCI) group buy for AC members
« on: 6 Sep 2007, 03:55 pm »
In celebration of our great review on the Stereo Mojo website(www.stereomojo.com) and winning their coveted "Maximum Mojo" award we have decided to have a type of group/power buy sale here for my fellow Audio Circle members. I have never done one of these before but I have been asked by several members if I would do it so here we go! I will be making this offer for a limited time and for AC members only. This offer is for our top of the line cable the Silkworms, but if your interested in any of our other models I will extend the discount to those models as well. I have launched our website so please feel free to visit and take a little peak around for information on our cables, but please keep in mind it is still under construction.

Here is how it will work;

The MSRP on a set of 1 meter Silkworms is $849 and if we reach the following numbers the discount shown below will apply:

1-5 sets= 15% discount
6+ sets= 20% discount

Everyone who gets in on this deal will also receive free(U.S. only) USPS Priority mail shipping. I will let this offer run for two weeks from today ending on Sept 20th, 2007. The last day of this offer will be the above listed date. If you are interested please sound off in this thread so we can keep a running head count, I will tally as we go along. I can accept checks, M.O., bank transers and paypal(please add the 3% fee). Well, I can't think of anything else right now but if I do I'll post it here. Our website and contact info will be below as well as it is in my signature. Thank you all and if anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to contact me anytime and I will respond asap. Thank you very much for your time and I hope that everyone has a great day!!

Sincerely,
John Prator

Hey John, thanks for the offer for AC members, does the group buy apply to only Silkworms or to your whole lineup?

Hi Art,
Good question/idea, I will extend this offer to the entire KCI line. I tell ya, the Fireflys are our newest cable and they are shockingly good! They are pure silver but are not bright or grainy at all. If you guys decide to give them a try I think your going to be shocked at their performance level.

I have decided to try and stir a little interest here so I am going to adjust the deal a little bit. Now 1-5 sets will receive the 15% discount, 6+ will get the 25% off. And I'm not talkind six sets of each, I'm talking total here so six sets of ANY of my line, ie; 2 Silkworms, 2 Fireflys, 1 Soundbolt and 1 Mandarina and were on! 25% off of anything! Lets take a gander......
For example, Silkworms retail at $849, take 15%($127.35) off and they're $721.00, 20% off gets you the Silkworms for $679.00....shipped!!
Fireflys at 15% off are $296.00 and 20% off is $279.00.
Mandarinas at 15% off are $254.00 and 20% is $239.00.
Sound bolts at 15% off are $84.00 and 20% is $80.
Please keep in mind that part of the deal is that the prices above do include shipping in the lower 48!!

I hope this isn't confusing. We're starting at 15% off right off the bat, six people put their names on the list and it goes to 20%, any and all cables from KCI.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Best regards,
John

Hey John,

I was looking on your website again, and got to thinkin' about the IC's made from silver. Do you have any of those on hand by any chance that you could send up as well?  :green:

I've never heard silver in my system, I'd like to try it.

Denny,
The Fireflys(silver) are great cables but they are very very quick and offer no coloration, in other words they are revealing. I think you'll like them, a set is on the way to you.  aa

Best,
John

I just received John's Firefly 99.999% Silver interconnects. The craftsmanship is second to none. These are beautifully built. Wow.  :thumb:

Nice work John! They'll be going in my second system to let them run in a bit. Looking forward to getting the Silkworms in for a side by side of the gold and silver.

Cheers

I took John up on his group buy of Kool Cables for ac members and ordered a pair of Sound Bolts from him with Eichmann Silver Bullets. With Kool Cables review in Stereo Mojo’s  covering the high end  Silk Worm’s I thought that I would do a little review of the other end of the Kool Cable  line of products  his Sound Bolt’s  for those of us whose pockets are not quite so deep. The cables were waiting for me Saturday when I got home for work Yea!!!   The appearance of the cables and workmen ship is very good with a neat and trim look which I like. They are nice and flexible which is good for me as there is not a lot of room behind my stereo rack for big heavy cables
I have a What I call I call an Audio Circle system either I bought  from a dealer who has a circle on AC,  AV123 Onix cd-3, Odyssey -  Mono  Extremes SE, Groneberg speaker cable   (Klaus Bunge is a class act), Selah audio Tanzanite’s, or bought from a member of AC, Rogue Magnum 99. Pre.  I even bought the plugs and wires for my power cords from DIYCABLE and VH audio and ACI. What can I say I like to spread my money around?
To evaluate these cables and any change in my system I used the same method  I would use in changing a major component I grabbed  a couple of my favorite CD’s   and refreshed my memory by Listening these  tracks, before changed the interconnects. I used the following tracks to discern any change to the system
This Mortal Coil - Song to the Siren, There is just a lot of layers to this song that are lost without good equipment
Dead can dance - Towards the within – Rakim
Cassandra Wilson - New moon Daughter - Death Letter.  Was a tossup here between this and Nina Simone’s Put a little sugar in my bowl. As I love the vocal on both
Eagles – Hotel California - Hotel California
The Sound Bolts replaced the Interconnects between my CD player and pre. I will just say the cables I took out were a home brew using good parts Canare L-2T2S wire and Canare RCA’s  and WBT silver solder. Now to the good part I found that the Sound Bolts in my system gave me dead quite sound floor that allowed the music to better flow thru the system. There was just that little extra, bells and symbols had a sharper faster attack.  Vocals were just that little bit more dynamic with a new clarity that I had not noticed before. Was the difference world shattering no, but being one of those guys that tends to think that a cable is a cable, and all the hype about this cable does this and is better than that is just some guys trying to justify spending all that money I was pleasantly surprised that Kool Cables “Sound Bolts” actually improved the sound of my system.  For the money they are an outstanding value.

Denny,
I'm glad the Fireflys made it to you promptly. Nice photo you took of them! Man I have the hardest time taking photos of these cables due to the reflective covering, drives me nuts. Maybe I should hire you to do my photo work!!

Your Silkworms are almost ready to go, I'll notify you when they ship. As for the Fireflys, they are a really nice cable but be forewarned.....they are quick, very quick and ruthlessly revealing, lesser front end equipment need not apply! I think you'll find they aren't "etchy or grainy" like some silver can sound but none the less, they'll let you know how clean the water is upstream! :o   Please keep me posted on your thoughts.

Did you receive your CNC machine yet? Do you plan to post a pic of it when you do? I for one would like to see a photo if you get a chance.

Ecramer,

Wow, thank you for your thoughts on the Soundbolts! I love that wire, it just doesn't do anything wrong and passes a nice clean signal. One draw back of the wire I use in that cable is that it seems to take forever to break in. I did cook them on my cable cooker for you but you will notice that over the next few hundred(yes I did say few hundred) hours they will start to open up even more so. I'm glad that you are enjoying them and if you have any questions or advice please don't hesitate to contact me anytime. Once again, thank you for taking the time to post your experience with them.

Sincerely,
John

I'll let you know what I think John.

I'm pretty sure I fall most under the category of listener who wants as revealing a system as possible. That's why I'm really interested in the silver IC's.

Transparency is what I pursue. At least what I think is the definition of it. We can never know for sure.

It's due to arrive in a little less than 4 weeks. I've already had the tech in to train me on the software. I'll be using full 3D software, akin to SolidWorks. I might put off the delivery as it's really close to RMAF, and we have to do a little renovating in the shop to make a spot for it, and an upgraded dust collection system.

This will be killer.  :green:

Yeah, I'll post some pics.

Just received 2 pairs of John's Silkworm interconnects for our LS-9 speaker demo that's coming up.

They're made every bit as nicely as the Firefly interconnects that I received last week.

They come with a certificate that certifies that they are authentically made from 99.998 % 24k Gold wire.

Nice job.  8)

Here's a pic:

Now I just gotta find the time to listen to 'em...  :|

Thanks again John,

Hi again,

Those silkworms if they are every bit as good as the review says, would be worth buying now. I don't know how long he can keep the silkworms at that price. Gold now trading at something like $730 or so. That is one reason why the price is so high.

I'll be interested in your take on the fireflies.

Hi Daygloworange,

Unfortunately, that will take awhile to do. You almost have to have three systems or three places to plug them all in to. They all have long break in periods. These soundbolts I have, have at least 50 hours on them. they are sounding pretty good. I can't speak for other cable manufacturers, but if I had to get these cables, wouldn't have any reservations in getting them. Don't get me wrong. There are other good manufacturers out there. These are pretty good for the price point. Are they worth double, three, or ten times as much? Can't honestly say. I don't have the experience in listening to that pricepoint in cables. I think all I am saying is, I'd pay the asking price for them.

I was one of the reviewers, and am now the owner of an all Silkworm system, I'll echo what Ray says Denny, these take a bit of time to run in, maybe John will weigh in, but I'd say at least 150 hours until they stopped changing on me and sounded pretty much the same every time I listened to them....but the Sikworm and Mandarina are exceptional, I get to hear the Soundbolt this weekend for the first time so I'm pretty interested in hearing those next to the Silkworm....I had the Firefly, but didn't really run them in too much, and am just not a fan of pure silver in my system anyway...YMMV of course with the different conductors, but what won't is John's first rate workmanship, all of these are real beauties and built really solidly...

Hey Arthur,

The soundbolts will disappoint you compared with the silkworms. They too take about 200 hours to open up.  Got about 50 hours on them, and they are just beginning to sound good. The ones I currently have are the copper connectors.

I'm told the fireflies don't have that silver schreech that a lot of them have. Looks like John has done his homework.
