Any opinion on these two pre-amps?
« on: 5 Sep 2007, 06:58 am »
Jeff Rowland Capri, and Belles 28A
both have all the "belles" and whistles that I want.
I am looking to consolidate my system. My system is...
Space-Tech Labs hybrid 100W amp (balanced), Space-Tech Labs tube buffer, Reimer wind river speakers. Source is SB3, Boulder Mods.
The Capri is definately more "sexy"  I will not have the chance to listen to either.
I listen to easy going rock (Cjunkies, R. Thompson, Neil Young, RLJones)
Speakers are efficient and revealing.
Thanks

I have the Belles 20A and it gives the " you are there " performance . Dynamic and super quiet without calling attention to itself . Great bass too . Never heard the 28A , it may sound totally different .

Hi, I just checked out the Bellees 28A specs, http://www.powermodules.com/28a.html. It has only a 7db gain in the line stage.  Is that a misprint?  Thanks.

The Dodd Audio  Dc battery powered preamp runs on 2- 6922 vacuum tubes and only 1/2 the triode on each tube =2x the tube life
and the blackness of noise and inner detail is incredible ,Nothing out there at even 2x it's price point will beat it for overall musicality.
As far as Bass and the lame review on 10 audio -Try letting the unit run in before doing a close examination,Jeff at Sonicap States
{ the Teflon takes a minimum of 300 hours to fully settle in on the CApacitors} also the review sample was a early production model and only ran on 2 batterys at a time, now all 4 run in series for more Current on tap then it will even need!
I have owner several 5k + preamps all bigname and they all come up short compared ,no power cords, or line conditioner and over 20 hours  of continuous use on the 4 Gel Batterys ,and the finish and  wood is simply beautifull-even on the remote.

I've read this thread 3 times and I can't see where anyone asked about Dodd.

Talk about coincidence.........the guy who recommended the Belles preamp in the Audiogon version of this thread just happened to be selling one. Small world.
