Mapleshade or Timbernation rack ?
« on: 2 Sep 2007, 11:12 pm »
I'm going to upgrade my rack. The two strongest contenders are Timbernation and Mapleshade (in that order). Can anyone offer input or advice from personal experience with either or both?

Welcome greg7,

What do you mean by "upgrade"?

To me Timbernation stuff looks nicer and you'd have greater choice of woods, sizes, configurations, and finishes.

Pierre Sprey and his enthusiastic customers are the only sources for performance ratings of his racks I know of.  His stuff seems a bit overpriced for what it is and styled best for neo-tech or post dorm room styling.

But what do I know?  I use a $30 Ikea Corras night table for a rack.

i have no first hand knowledge of either rack, but i have experimented with the same kiln dried maple that timbernation uses as well as the air dried maple from mapleshade. imho there's no contest between the two. the air dried maple is simply superb! i was stunned when i listened to the difference between the two under my floorstanders.
