The SAS appears to be a very nice unit.  While learning/reading of the SAS 11A, I wonder about the dual volume control.  Does each controller click giving you some sort of reference?  Another words, do you have to get up from the sweet spot and adjust each volume controller multiple times trying to dial in center stage every time you want to adjust the volume?

I don't see tick marks around the volume control which would enable the user to know that both channels are at the same volume and wonder if the volume control sometimes creates frustration during critical listening sessions with various albums. 

I wouldn't think you can set it and forget it as different tracks from various albums will not all be at the same loudness.  One song can be just right, another to soft, and another to loud.

I don't have an SAS unit, but I am currently in possession of an integrated amp that has separate left and right channel volume controls.  The manufacturer of that amp suggest that, if the separate volume controls ever become an issue for you, you can always stretch a rubber band around the pair of dials (obviously, not too tightly or too loose).  Then when you adjust one dial, the other will adjust along with it.  But you retain the benefits of separation between the volume controls.

I have had a 10a for several years and feel that once a person gets used to the dual controls (no clicks on mine) they are easy to use.
I much prefer this over the many preamps that have no way to balance the volume, as I find it useful once in a while.

I own a 10A and i just auditioned the 11A.the volume controls are smooth and dont seem bothersome at all.they give you flexability to compensate for room placement issues etc....everyone i know who has listened to a SAS preamp has been very positive in thier comments regarding them. thanks....WCW III

Hi Mark,

It really is not any problem after a short time. 

The problem with the clicking type controls is that half the time the balance seems to be in between clicks. Plus finding a good type control is much more difficult than it might seem.

 The fidelity is also better with dual controls vs a volume/balance control combo, or a remote type. The  10A and 11As are for those who value sonic purity as the most important feature of an audio system.

The preamplifier/IC are the only components that can be tested verses 'nothing'. As such,  the 11A/V ics become the foundation of an audio system. Then one looks for the rest of the components. Surprisingly, what one may think of as an excellent component may change when using the 11A to test that component.

I have the 10a and actually prefer the dual pots. I can really dial in the image with them

Probably the biggest feature is the cost, and sounds better to boot.

I had a 10A and was worried about the dual pots as well.  The rubber band idea seems like a good one that I would have tried had I heard of it, but I had no issues at all with the dual-pots. 

Enjoy it, it's one terrific preamp.
