Anyone own or heard this sub and can you give me some comments feedback about it if you have?
Here's a link to the sub:

I posted request for opinions on this a while back. I think some people said they like the Dayton Reference 12" sub, but I never got any real feedback on the Titanic woof. or the complete sub.

I'm still contemplating building a passive pair and powering w/ my old Adcom GFA555 if I can find an active x0ver. Or.....I might go w/ an OB design and use the Hawthorne Auggies.

If you want music quality then the Dayton Reference series drivers are the way to go. The Titanic is for HT. Btw with the RS HiFi drivers you can build a very high quality sub on the cheap.

The Rythmik Audio Direct Servo subs http://www.rythmikaudio.com/DS12.html are absolutely superb and priced comparably with what you are looking at. True extension below 20hz (-3db) and enough displacement to generate substantial SPL. In a compact package too.
I recommend a pair of the 2cu ft 12's, sealed w/ 24db/oct XO will bring your music alive and rock the house for HT.
And yes, I own a pair myself .
Best of luck.

cheers,

AJ

What I did is build two sealed subs with the 15" Dayton RS HiFi drivers.  For the money I doubt you can do any better and likely not as well. If you need help with the design let me know.  You'll have of the best bass money can buy for very little money considering the quality of bass you have. Believe me this is an area where I am super picky and I can't imagine bass getting any better. Of course my room is thoroughly treated which makes a BIG difference on the sound of your system.

You have it the opposite way around. These are music subs - with enough output to be used as HT. They sound as good as any sub that size (yes, regardless of price). The servo system is the difference that sets it apart from the usual (DIY) suspects (I've owned/heard tons, including Dayton RS, Peerless XLS, Adire, etc, etc. systems).
I use mine for music exclusively now (TCSounds for HT). That is where they excel. They will beat the pants of many store bought subs at several X the price.
You'll fully understand when you set up a pair in your music room

cheers,

AJ

p.s. you can do a search over on DIYaudio. Several folks there have built these.

There are also some people at AVS who have built them, using the parts express cabinet.  This is what I am thinking about doing right now.  You just need to cut a hole for the driver, and the amp.  I might also line the cabinet with something to help damp it, as there is only one brace in it.

There was a guy who built one, and did a very good comparision between the rythmik and a velodyne.  I will look for the link later, when I have a moment.

Building the box was not too bad as it is relatively compact at 2cu ft. Several examples can be seen in the reviews section on the Rythmik site. Looks like he even has plans for it now. If you are allergic to sawdust, something like the PE 2 cu ft box would work (unfortunately Madisound does not carry the woodstyle enclosures any more). Or sonotube. Of course, if you build from scratch yourself, you can make it as rigid as you please.
When I built mine in '04, there was only one choice. The new DS12 standard sealed 24db filter would be the equivalent.

cheers,

AJ

Thanks AJ, seems like the DS12 at 12db would be the one for me as that's recommended for music and the 24db for HT.  What do yo think?
Do you have some pictures of yours?

Here's the thread I was talking about
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=827369&highlight=rythmik+velodyne

He built the rythmik using the PE cabinet, then compared it to his Velodyne HGS-12 sub.

I think it has nothing to do with HT or music. It depends on what type of hi-pass behavior and summation you want with the satellites/mains. You can always contact the owner of Rythmik, Brian and ask him his recommendation for your particular set up. He's quite knowledgeable and a very nice guy.

I recommend ported, high performance subs for music. With my home theater the long low bass lines sometimes resonated and shook the subs. I made two 15" sealed subs (it's a terrible room shape) with the Dayton RS speakers and 3.0 cabinets and powered them in series with the Parts Express sub amp, a real bargain. Drop off is around 30 Hz but there is no distortion at all. I powered my 2 older ported 12" subs  with the same amp and the output is scary.
