Something I built
« on: 22 Aug 2007, 01:49 pm »
I'm new here, stumbled across this forum by pure accident.

Thought I'd share with you a semi openbaffle design that I built.  I can't claim the design.

Happy to discuss details, drivers and the like.

Full thread, including the prototype build here

http://www.pinkfishmedia.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8135

My build is from around page 12 onwards.

Nice speakers Garf.  What calls more attention to it all, is actually the contraption you have behind them to "Guard" your equipment.

May I ask, guard against what? :thumb:

Ah, that's a fire guard to stop my grandkids pressing buttons, turning things off and on.

When the little beasts are about then I move it out the way.

Wow, grandkids.  I need to have some private security guards against my to be 2 year old.  He figures out how to get to things in imaginative ways. :green:

Going back to the speakers, brother, are we humans supposed to be able to do the cabinet work you did?  Those clamps are some serious beasts.

Welcome to AC, and more specifically to the Open Baffle Circle.

WOW, that is some wonderful build quality, I get more and more embarrassed all the time, with the ugly mdf I am still running, closing on 3 years later!

Love the curved design of the profile from the side, reminds me of Scandinavian furniture my dutch friend owns, or some of the teak my wife and I own for our dining room set.

All the best,

Welcome, Chilly.
Nice work-I'm sure your proud of those and should be!
What are the drivers that your using and where are they crossed over please?
I am running tweeters with my wide range driver ob set-up and am soon  going to try an mtm design. I run a pair of infinite baffle 15"ers for low end.

Looks nice, good combination of colors and curves.  Is that a Skanning midrange?

Thanks for your comments.  I did work pretty hard getting them together.

Drivers:

High: 2905/9300
Mid: Seas MCA15RCY
Low: Vifa M26WR-09-08

It is a shame that the bass driver is now discontinued :(

I'll dig out the graphs for the xovers.

Nice work Chiily,

I have an early speaker design in my home that I have been running for nearly 10 years now that runs a few of the M26WR-09-08 drivers. Nice bass driver and yes, it is a shame that VIFA discontinued it.
This driver has been discontinued for some time. How long have you had them?

Ah well. There are a couple of places on the globe where these speakers are still in stock.  I'm in the UK and I found around 100 of them in Australia.

The designer of these speakers has gone on to build a set of speakers, each with two of these bass drivers.

I almost built those....Wish I did, I had ALL the drivers needed. I still run the M26wr0908's in OB though & they are very , very good drivers...too bad about them getting pulled. I can only amagine that those sound amazing. I would bet large money on that....

A couple of better pictures

They are now spiked :)

Sounding superb with a pair of Avondale's NCC200 mono-block modules.
