Let me ask you Adam, did you do the different color schemes you posted on page 1?
Hi JohnP, define 'do' for those colour schemes?

I modeled the speakers in a 3D package (Softimage XSI) and did a bunch of renders to 'try' them out in different colours. So they weren't made in 'real life'
I had a hard time deciding which colour. I knew i wanted to paint them, but what? Solution:
- Take a picture of where the speakers are going to go (but without them there)
- Model them in 3D
- Match the camera direction / FOV in 3D with the actuals from your real picture
- Match the lighting by shooting a 3" chrome bearing, and using High Dynamic Range based image rendering
- Render and composite
Voila, you now have an image of your speakers in your room, in any colour you want! It's a great way to previsualize things before you commit.
Before getting the RAW HT8 speakers, i was thinking of the Apex II's, but after doing a similar thing where i built the speakers and my old listening room and 'walking around' it inside the computer, it was very clear the Apex II's were too big. We've done the same thing with furniture, and it's great to test out arrangements.
For those who want to try this, without getting / learning heavy duty 3D software - try
Google Sketchup Free! Easy! Try out any speakers in your listening room and previs what they'll look like (you just won't get the sexy photorealistic renders, but hey, the rest is very cool)
Cheers,
/Adam
