Hi julie

From the 12 volt output on the SP2

1. run a twin wire (2 conductors) (it can be very high gauge - 22 is fine) to the 6B - 12 volt input.
2. run another wire (daisy chain) from the 12 volt output on the 6B to the 4B 12 volt input.
3.make sure the switches on the back of the amplifiers are in REMOTE position not Local.

When you switch on the SP2 the amplifiers should turn on in sequence.

Not sure about the SP2 but if it is like the SP 1.7 - make sure you use the common and On/Off terminals on the Sp 1.7 / 2 and not the common and Aux terminals.  Aux has to be "programmed" for specific inputs whereas the On/Off turns on and off the the SP 1.7 / 2

Hi John,

Yes the voltage is minimal through the wire.

can i confirm that i can run multiple triggers off the sp2. for eg, i'll connect the amps are per suggestion but also want to send a trigger to my belkin power center PF60 (which my amps dont connect to) but runs my set top box, media box, dvd player etc?

thanks,

julie

julie:

You can run multiple triggers from the SP-2 but I believe there is a
current draw limit of 80 mA from the SP-2. It looks like Bryston
amps draw 2 mA when wired up to the SP-2's 12-volt turn-on.
Therefore, you should be able to connect more than enough
amps to the SP-2 12-volt turn-on.

The PF60 appears (based on the 12-volt in label on the back of the PF60)
to draw 3-30 volts at 10 ma so you should
also be able to switch on your 2 amps and PF60 from your
SP-2.

The SST amp manual says the  12-volt control output has a higher
2 A output limit (this seems really high). So to make extra sure you
have enough current to turn on your PF-60, you might want
to connect it to the 12-volt output on one of your amps.

I use fully insulated automotive crimp-on connectors in my system
so I can unplug each unit separately. I have an SP-1.7 and a mixture
of SST and ST amps. The SP-1.7 and ST amps have the old 12-volt
connectors which are a pain to deal with. I can try to draw a
diagram if anybody is interested.

james:

What happens if you exceed the 12-volt turn output current on
the SP-1.7 / 2.0  and bryston amps ?

Thanks, Steve

hi steve,

could you please explain what you mean by crimp on connectors (picture would be great)?

also, i for one would be very interested in seeing a diagram.

plan as far as powering goes:

i have 2 dedicated 20amp points that i want to connect my 6b sst and 4b sst to.
i also have a dedicated 20amp point for pf60.

so are we recommending that i just daisy chain from sp2 to 4b to 6b to pf60?

also, can i confirm that its best to connect amps direct to power rather than via pf60?

sorry for all the questions.

cheers,

julie

If this was me, I would plug the Bryston amps directly to the wall and not to the PF60.  As for the PF60, I would not use that to trigger the set top box, DVD player etc instead, I would use a universal remote control.  To automatically power these devices on.  You may lose settings each time power is cut to these boxes and they may not like to be turned out via the outlet.

Julie,

I did up a very rough picture of how you could connect two amps to an SP-1.7/2
with automotive connectors so you can unplug separate items.

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery;area=browse;album=1174&pos=0

Unfortunately, I just realized that it doesn't match your setup. At least it gives an idea
of the connectors (and the tool)  that I am talking about.

Since you are using all SST amps, you can just daisy chain them and use the connectors
that come with the amps. I'll try to draw you a diagram tomorrow.

I agree with Eric -- I plug my amps directly into the wall. If there is any threat of a
storm I just pull all 4 plugs and disconnect the cable tv feed.

One of two ways.

first the method you previously mentioned namely daisy chaining it to your amps.  This is the simple way.

The more complicated way but more flexible way is to use the Common and Aux directly from your SP 2 directly to your PF60.  You would then program in your SP2 which sources (ie DVD, SAT) that will trigger the PF60.  Again, I would advise against putting source components on your PF60 but instead use a universal remote control.  I use two power conditioners and do trigger some outlets from the power conditioners via the Common/Aux on my SP 1.7 but these are to turn on things like rope lights for specific inputs namely DVD and Sat.

thanks again eric,

will daisy chain pf60 off amp and use universal remote to trigger off all components

cheers,

julie

oops. just thought of something. assuming that i plug my sp2 into the pf60 for power, the trigger idea wont work right? :(

not familiar with the PF60 but many of the power conditioners have only select outlets that are triggerred and even these can be set to be always on.  The remaining outlets are always on.  Just make sure the SP2 is plugged into one of these always on outlets.
