Speaker Binding Posts
« on: 8 Aug 2007, 04:09 pm »
My question to throw out there is about speakerwire binding posts.
Ric of TweakAudio( I think) feels a true sonic upgrade is to eliminate them.
He runs his own set up hard wired I've read on this site, and has a novel method of a bypass on his amp speaker outs.
Robert of Ridge Street Audio has a novel approach for speaker wire attachments on his famous Sason speakers.
I haven't seen any pictures of this, but Ric does have a good view on his web site amp pics.

With all the recent chatter about external crossovers and the obvious increases of this type interface I have begun to wonder
what other audio nuts think and/or are doing on this subject.

OK, OK.
This is my first thread, I admit it.
Is this a subject that has already been beat to death?
Did I name the link poorly?
No one cares about this easy tweak?

Whats up?
Sincerely,

Rod

no clue where the community stands on this, but i think the cheap ones are just terrible, they really harm the signal.   I recently removed the stock set (Dayton's) from the external x-overs on my speakers, and a whole world of sound opened up.

I think the general idea is that the connective parts of our systems should do no harm to the signal...up until a certain price point though, they do.

If i run across a situation where I can't hardwire, i try and use Eichmann's Cablepods.   A lot of folks use the Edison posts, which seem to be the best of the old school 'chunk of brass' designs.    cryo-parts.com sells these.    Both pairs i mention are $50 a set.

in the end its up to you and how your use your system.   IF you need big spades and easily torqued binding posts, then so be it.   i'd get curious though and see how removing them works, then work backwards so they function the way you like but don't kill that magic that removing them probably brought out.

Wow, way cool gooberdude, 1000 posts.
Thanks for the reply, the silence was killin me.

I guess the other criteria is you need a system that has a clarity and resolution to show the improve.
Ric once told me though, any speakers will have audible benefit.
