Has anyone tried an aftermarket "umbilical" cord for the VHP-2 head- amp?

Hi: I just purchased a VHP-2 head-amp with the VAC.1 power supply and was wondering if anyone has tried this aftermarket umbilical cord  http://www.revelationaudiolabs.com/cables-power/index.htm#ParablePower, with good sounding results, or should I spend my money elsewhere, maybe on a power cord,or RCA's! I am looking for actual users of this umbilical cord if possible! Thanks, Huck

Huck,

I use the VHP-1/VAC-1 combination, and I use an earlier generation of the Parable power cord (it's not called the Parable, and is black rather than purple, but I don't know if the cable is actually different or not).  So, my results may or may not apply.

I was VERY happy when I managed to pick up the cable.  It made a significant difference in my system.  Bass tightened up, resolution was improved.  I don't know if I would have taken a $100 risk on it prior to trying it.  But I was lucky, and scored one cheaply in the head-fi classifieds.  After trying it, I would definitely have been prepared to pay $100 for it.

I hope that helps.

I've bought several cables from RAL over the past 4 years (IC, PC, and Umbilical) and while his IC's and PC's are very, very good.....nothing came close to the umbilical as improvement goes.  Of what I've bought from Revelation Audio Labs, tho happy with it all, it's absolutely the best value in the line.

It's better to spend $100 on them than equivalent amounts for wire anywhere else in your system, I think.

I've had them between my (MSB) DAC and power supply and (Musical Surroundings) phono pre and power supply (paid $179 for those each)....both instances were a major upgrade over stock.  I can't honestly say that about any wire 'upgrade' elsewhere in my system (except for my Alpha-Core MI-2 speaker cable).

Sorry, Dusty, to pull talk of other makers into your circle.

Coincidentally, just ordered and installed my Parable (purple) umbilical between my VDA-2 and VAC-1 supply this weekend.  I'm often skeptical of cables, etc., and Dusty's stock umbilical isn't exactly cheap-o.  Its pretty decent gauge and build quality.  That said, the RAL .5M cable made a very nice improvement to the DAC.  Highly recommend it, and the price point good value for the performance hands down.

Question:

I also purchased the Parable for my VDA2 and VAC1.  I had previously changed the power cable to a shielded one and it provided a subtle smooth change to the sound.  When I added the Parable things sounded disappointing.  I hadn't thought to go back to the stock AC Power until today.  When I used the Supplied AC cable along with the Parable I got what everyone was saying in this thread.  It is a definite and recommended upgrade  :thumb:  Luckily I tried this as I was about to return the cable.  So now to my question:  Is everyone using the stock AC cable?  If not what combinations have people tried?  As much as I love the Parable, I can't put $600 into a power cable  at the moment.  I'm thinking if it ain't broke don't fix it but I'd like to see what people's experiences are.  Thanks!

(Disclaimer: I have never tried something remotely similar, this is pure common sense and scepticism...)

Am I right in thinking this umbilical cord is the one between a power supply and the amp?
A short cable that transfers nothing but low voltage DC?

That sounds like complete snake oil, doesn't it?
How can this insignificant piece of copper wire, that transfers stable DC, with minimal fluctuations have ANY (and I mean ANY) impact on the sound?

The actual audio signal is very far removed from this cable, right?
A stable DC supply going IN to this cable should be practically identical to whatever comes out of it, regardless of OFC copper or what have you.

But then again, what do I know.

I found it was not only significant, but the most significant cable change I ever made...in any system I've owned. Most cable swaps elsewhere (even the RAL stuff) were lateral moves mostly - this one was a leap forward, for sure.

Beats me why... :dunno:
