Hiya Guys,

This is simply just a head count for all of the GAS members. Over the past few years I've kept a list, but members have come and gone. To be honest, we don't have a clue exactly how many of us there are. So, lets use this thread to create a GAS Membership Master List that we can give to our other members.

I'll start with the people I know for sure are members (in no particular order). Do me a favor and add others names that I may have forgotten (sorry in advance if I forgot yours).

Blackmore (Mark)
electricbear (Tim)
bpape (Bryan)

Besides wanting to get a firm handle on how many of us there are, we need to do a dues collection also. Last night we had our Reference Recording meeting and all went extremely well. we are forging ahead with our initial offering plus we have several in the que once we make it past the initial learning curve. We still have some legal issues to deal with (incorporation and such) but we have good direction now. One of the reasons for collecting dues (or hopefully over-collecting) is to defray some of our initial start up costs of our first release. We have the obvious things like publishing fees, CD duplication fees (from a real pressing plant), artwork and packaging.

The costs won't be huge but they do exist. Last night, Chris Hoff of BPT graciously offered to build us one of his power conditioners for the cost of parts and will allow us to auction it here on AC as a fundraiser. Bryan also stepped up and said he would donate his labor portion of a room design to GAS. I'll also throw my hat into the ring and donate my writing proceeds through the end of the year (probably three or so articles) to help sweeten the pot. Even with these funds raised, we will likely fall just a bit short. Thats why we are doing a Dues Drive.

Just to get those of you up to date who didn't attend the meeting last evening, we decided as a group to forge ahead with the project of starting a record label. It will be named Gateway Audio Society Reference Recordings (or GAS Reference Recordings). We will set up a not for profit corporation for the production company. All of the proceeds will be used to either fund the next recording. Once the funds are secured for the future recording, the additional funds will be set aside to fund College Scholarships for worthy applicants who are going to focus on the arts as a vocation (music preferably). None of us want to make money out of this. This will be done for the advancement of the arts.

We will try to reconvene in about three or four weeks to see what kind of progress we make. Ultimately, we would like to have the finished product out before Rocky Mountain AF. Several people mentioned wanting to use our disc as part of their demo. It would be nice to have piles available for purchase at that same time. In the meanwhile, we will be updating our website and software to handle online purchases.

Well, thats all I can think of for right now. If I think of anything else, I'll make another post.

Following up on Scotts post...
We need to have a brief discussion with an Attorney who can advise us on our incorporation and non for profit status. Does anyone have a friend or know of anyone who can help us in this regard. Bearing in mind that the less this costs us the more we have left to get the recordings done. If you know anyone please pm myself ,stevek, bpape or Scott F.
Thanks.

When you're ready Ryan, let me know the structure you want and I'll get it created assuming we're going to shift over to the other server where the home page currently sits for www.gatewayaudiosociety.com  If it's easier, I can just give you the admin access so you can play with it directly.

Let me know and thanks for getting this part going.

Couple more questions...

Do we have a paypal account? It might make paying dues easier for those of us that work crazy hours. I would pay extra (to cover the fees) if we do.

Do we have "sponsorship" type members or plan to advertise on the site? What about for non-audio companies?

Did we ever determine if we are going to offer clothing and nicknacks (mouse pads, coffee cups etc)?
I know if I would have been at the meeting these questions would have been answered, but work is crappy at the moment and with school right around the corner, not looking any better!

Duly noted. That was all discussed last Wednesday night--incorporating as a not-for-profit which requires corporate officers, paypal account to sell discs, bank account, accountant, lawyer, graphics and printing, CD production and packaging, website and sponsorships, performance groups and venues etc. We're working on it.

I knew I was forgetting regulars, sorry

When it comes to shirts, Blackmore got us set up with shirts at one of his local shops. Heres a link to the thread.

If its your typical custom t-shirt shop, they probably offer mouse pads, coffee cups and other stuff too. Most everyone has gotten embroidered Polo (type) shirts. They are pretty nice, plus they are cheap.

When it comes to PayPal, we should have that up and running inside (about) a month or so.

Why don't you guys just use AC as your website?

In any case, if it would help once you have a CD going with a way to buy online, I'd be happy to place a link on the AC front page.

Cool, thanks John.  :thumb:

No worries, we aren't leaving AC.

Our website will be set up as a series of static pages. It will also house our secure shopping cart for the releases. We talked about doing all of it through AC and decided it might be kind of cumbersome for potential buyers to find and buy albums if they have to drill down through layers of circles and posts to find the release they want.

We will definitely have a link to AC, pointing local people to our regular discussion forum so they can keep up with our regular audiophile and recording activities. I haven't checked in a but I think our GAS site has a forum attached to it. That link will disappear or get changed to our pages here.

Hey Scott, once you have things running smoothly, how about having a thread with a single post that provides ordering information (or at least the proper links to this information on your website, paypal, etc.). You could have this as a locked, sticky so the information doesn't get lost and the thread doesn't get off track.
On your website, you could have pages available for consumer feedback as well.

I am all for getting music back in schools, if you decide to do a sponship program, count me in. I know a lot of this is still only in the planning stages but I thought I would bring it up anyway.

Hey Scott. I'm not worried, I'm just hoping I may be able to save you (pl) some time and/or disappointment.

The AC T-shirt shop is (in my opinion) a good model. nathanm set this up using the services of a 3rd-party provider. He didn't have to rely on favors, he just used the advertised facilities of that provider. That's not to say that he didn't do a bunch of work, just that he let someone else do the boring stuff and let his creative side shine with the designs. My part was relatively easy, and just meant putting in a link/ad where it made sense. I was (am) more than happy to do that.

Hey Bill.

We'll definitely make the releases a sticky. That way everybody can find it easy.. Thanks for the thoughts on sponsership, we will likely be doing that at some point in the future.

Hiya John,

Thanks for the offer. Let me check with Bryan and Turbo. They are the ones that taking care of that part of it.

Albert Naumann

Albert isn't really an 'online' guy so I'll have to call him for the donation.
