While it certainly sold a lot and has wide regard now, it seems if I remember that all the rock critics of the day dismissed the Floyd's "DSotM", as they did with all 'prog rock'.

I think Gilmore's guitar work on this record is some of the most expressive and emotional playing ever done. It thrilled me as a teen, and still does all these years later. I thought this record somehow got the angst of the period as right as anything out there.

And speaking of guitar players....I think the early ZZTop stuff friggin rules! I love Billy Gibbons.....before they went pop. He wasn't fast or flashy, but man, could he flat out play music......not guitar......Music.

Van Morrison- Veedon Fleece

Be Bop Deluxe- Axe Victim

Gentle Giant- Glass House. Never released on a US label.

In an interview Hendrix was asked who was the best (or his favorite?) guitarist around and he said  Billy Gibbons  :thumb:

Fleetwood Mac, Kiln House

 :)

This is the front and back cover of Kiln House. Painted by Christie McVie before she was a member of the group.

Before starting-my vote for the single most entirely ruined LP by radio- Fleetwood Mac- Rumors (they killed it so bad- I still do not own it )

True, but if you have not done so already, check out the newer remastered version on CD.  Mick's percussion skills really pop.  Its worth a re-listen.

Even though I voted for him twice and thought him a good president, Clinton's first campaign killed "Don't Stop" for me.

Mudslide

....The debut album of the Florida Guitar Army, The Outlaws, by the Outlaws!  Hughie Thomasson was elected by Fender as one of their Living Legends Guitarists and he truly deserves the honor.

If you haven't heard this album and like rock...you owe it to yourself to give it a spin.  One of their hits from this album, just made the Top 20 all time CMT list of songs...Green Grass and High Tides.

Nice to see that 1st Journey album listed. It's a strange one but definitely a prog album~  :D

I keep returning to Yessongs. The performances are nothing short of stunning. Steve Howe's guitar work on Siberian Khatru and Heart of the Sunrise is inspiring.

Second, Little Feat "Waiting For Columbus"

The early 80's King Crimson stuff, with Tony Levin, and Adrian Belew, as well as Bruford, and Fripp. Thraak? Was it? Saw this outfit at the CNE in Toronto, and they flattened the joint.

I just received the remastered Yes, "Drama" which I hadnt heard in years. Mostly forgotten  by fans due to it lacking Anderson/Wakeman, this album is VERY good stuff.

One tune from Nazareth, "Holiday," great little chestnut.

**alot of this stuff to me, sounds better today, than it did then**

electricbear

Marillions Misplaced Childhood. The combination of truly poetic lyrics mixed with the unmistakable style of Fish's vocals. This is in the top ten of my all time favs.

Turnandcough

A bit dated but nonetheless worth mentioning...

With Eric Clapton sounding like Jimi Hendrix and Jimi Hendrix sounding like Eric Clapton on this last one.
