I just bought a PrimaLuna Dialogue One that has me grinning from ear to ear.  Auto-bias, so manual biasing is not an issue.  And then there is that glorious tube sound...I am in sonic heaven!

Yup, I'm a convert!

love the Vac amps (and if i had a more efficient speaker, a 30/30 would be in my house).  think you can do much better than the VAC standard preamp.

i think the other draw back of tube amps is if you have a multi-use system (i watch tv and movies with mine), you tend to eat up tubes for no reason.

This is true, I am thinking about a way to use my digital amp for tv/movies. My preamp has a 2nd output, but I'm not sure on switching speaker cables. I'm far too lazy to reach behind the speakers and manually change them, and a switch box with a couple of dpdt switches is just more junk around and likely not good for sound quality. I'd hate to build the box only to be disappointed if it sounds bad.

Mike-  Thinking about my appreciation of what I get using tubes, I recall reading something years ago about how tubes roll dynamic gradations out on a curve but that solid state does it in rapid increments.  Don't know if their is a lick of truth to that and I don't imagine this can be discerned with the ear alone but we don't just discern music with the ear alone, I'm pretty sure of that.  Maybe it was son of tube Harvey Rosenburg who said that, I don't know.  I've come to think that I listen with my whole body.  I could be crazy but I don't fight it.  Just one man's enthusiam talking.

...Well I left the tube world, at least for awhile...

...The Rowland has clarity, texture.an easy flow, and is free from that sterile sound many SS amps have. Actually it has the attributes that I was always trying to move my tube amps towards....
yup...  you'll be back.

i have s/s electrocompaniet amps that share similar qualities to your rowlands.  (imo, from your comments.)  but, nothing beats tubes, imo.  and no s/s preamp can ever be satisfactory to me.  afaik, that is...   :green:
